This image is legend. I have wondered about it in fascination. I gather it’s probably German in origin, or the person imported the German water. Maybe filtered lucky strikes are common there? I’m guessing circa 1997 given the ephemera surrounding the objet d’art… Razr, 15" crt, ball mouse, PC speaker. In my fever dreams the subject would come forward, some 30 years later, with cred and identifying details. Maybe they’re too ashamed…

There really are so many layers to the mystery. Pepcid was not, I think, a common brand in 1995-2000 Germany, but there’s the water and a QWERTZ board. What is going on with the foil balls? And just what is the molex connector powering?
Looks like it’s attached to a SATA hard drive (under the speaker), connected through some kind of USB or Firewire adapter?

You’re right! That does look like a SATA drive, and combined with the XP-style Windows key, we’ve set a lower bound of about 2002. So it was the 90s only in spirit.
