We need that before and after cleaning porn

Ask and you shall receive; I won’t hold back the gross ones because it does get better. Here we go - Before:

Doesn’t look so bad from afar…

Oh dear

Hm… ok

ew

:scream:

Oh hey the keeb agrees

:skull:

Alright. Time to clean. I used:

  • Gravity; shake it out! An abominable rain of untold composition flutters and crackles its way into my sink.

  • Cotton-tip things that definitely don’t go in your ear, with just some water to get crud from between the switches.

  • Paper towels and alcohol for the ink stains on the case; probably not the best thing for the plastic but it’s what I have on-hand, and also likely to be the least of this keeb’s worries.

  • Air bulb thing :dash:

After:*

Also during - here’s the plate mostly clean but before the case:

Air bulb, keys taken from a different keeb.

Mostly clean.

Getting there.

Time to gently, patiently scrub the case.

Still a few tiny spots, but mostly gone!

No more biofilm. For today.

Let’s snap it back on.

Oh yeah - much better.

Right side

Left side

No more fuzz

No more crumbles… or at least a lot less crumbles

Ah. Calming. Time for caps.

Oh yeah.

Fab.

So fab.

A corner

The whole thing - and the absolute glam that is my sister’s keyboard in all its shiny glory:

Yesterday a buddy if mine came along. He bought a used RK61 in january and smashed it on the floor. And tried to fix the keycaps. With glue. That attacked the plastics. And tried to remove access glue afaik. And gotten angry again. So he defiled it with some more kicking. I dunno. Please don’t ask.
So he gave me a visit now in april. Apperantly he tried to remove two faulty switches after the whole procedure. With a wrench. He said he was only using a screwdriver. But I’m sure the darn liar was using a wrench. The plate was pretty scratched too. My CPU wasn’t running in the morning so I forgot to take pictures.
So I showed him how to unscrew it from the bottom (no plate screws in this model) desolderd and removed both victims, tested the connectors and soldered some of my old excess switches back in. He left me with the spare parts and a promise to help me out if I need something fixed… pffff… carpenters. :face_with_peeking_eye:

I call it the “Mutilated61”. And it gives me the chills to know that somewhere there is a board. It is out there. Lurking for your children. Late at night. With a mix of German and US labelled caps. With Red Clones… and two counterfeit BROWNs. mmmwwwhhaaaaa!!!

Another print shop terminal - this one in a former tobacco barn.
