Post Your Keyboards!

My daily driver MAJA build finally has a coiled cable. This one’s the blueberry cheesecake color from Cablemod.

goes so nicely with that brass plate!

Yeah! I was initially worried how it would look, but the contrast is very nice. It wouldn’t be nearly as interesting with a carbon or poly plate.

How is the Portal? Nice color way BTW

That is perfect. When did your HMKB arrive?

What’s the backstory on the background? Very neat and creative.

Hey there, happy valentines!

Here’s the latest one I built: a very special Pandora in Tiffany Blue Polycarbonate by Koobaczech <3

And the obligatory back side:

Short Story:
I’m lazy and carry my keyboard around the house until I find a spot where the light looks good.

Long story:
All of my photos are taken with my iPhone, and I hardly ever touch them with Photoshop. Even though I have extensive experience with Photoshop over the past two decades, I know only the basics of photography. It sounds strange when I type that out, but that’s the case. I own an older Canon DSLR, but I get frustrated with it. The one thing I know for sure is that lighting is a pain in the ass.

I love collecting and tinkering with keyboards. The reason I started an Instagram account was to share how nifty they look. I thought, “well, from my experience with things in the past, if something sounds or looks cool to me, other people might think it is cool too.”

What’s frustrating is how crappy cameras are with capturing what our eyes perceive. I almost always shoot in natural light. I have a lot of windows in my house to help with that. My iPhone is pretty terrible with colors. Curious, is there a smartphone camera with AI that doesn’t suck at colors? Why does the phone have to mess with the colors anyway? Sorry. Ranting.

I have a handful of locations and backgrounds that will trick the phone into rendering the correct colors. I usually use my kitchen countertop, hardwood floors, deskmat, or desktop, depending on the time of day and the colors I’m trying to capture. When the keycaps are any shade of cream, I often have to resort to using an off-white background or the phone does an absolute crap job of capturing the right color.

In this shot, everywhere I tried just didn’t work out. I was going to have to resort to my off-white spot (which is an upholstered bench at my kitchen table). I felt like I had too many shots in that one location. So I went on a hunt for a backgroud that would trick my phone into showing the right colors. I have this nifty collage of different diameter cork pieces that is made into a display piece. I can’t remember where I purchased the piece, but it was inexpensive. I held it up to the artpiece, and sure enough, it made the carbon caps look exactly like my eyes see them.

So I layed the cork collage down on its side (it’s flat on both sides) and stacked the keyboard on top of it. A few adjustments in shadows, contrast, and color temperature on my iPhone and posted to Instagram. Then I thought, “Oh yeah. Wood is organic like carbon. Totally planned that one. And the circles in the cork are a pattern that is mirrored on the carbon accent caps. Totally meant to do that too.”

I try to keep focused on the things that make me happy in life. Playing with keyboards, curating and creating music and art… those thing work for me. They keep me grounded and make me happy. Photography isn’t on that list. I’m old enough to be confident in what I like and what I don’t like. I wouldn’t be happy if I had to struggle to come out with a perfect photo with perfect studio lighting, perfectly edited in Photoshop. But I’d love to look at such a photo

A day or two before I posted. I didn’t wait long to build it. Someone had previously commented to SA 1976 and I thought, wow that would look great on beige.

Pandora is one that I deeply regret not getting in on. This is stunning!

It’s like a bakeneko but much prettier. Lol Honestly not much else to it.

I’m a big fan of oring mount because it’s so easy to disassemble. The portal is compatible with screwin stabs as well. The machining is so smooth with the seamless exterior and cherry lip. e-lav coating is chef’s kiss

I find the edges of the board to be quite hollow. I don’t really care in general, but the spacebar needs extra love to sound decent.

It’s a bit overpriced for what you get, and really it was a perfect storm of looking for a light purple board when the e-lav popped into my radar.

That said I’m happy with my purchase, and it fits my waifu aesthetic perfectly. The folks over at parallel studios are also extremely communicative, so I’m looking forward to what else they put out.

The Coldtop Topre deskmat finally arrived. Now my keycap choices don’t seem as haphazard.

Matches it perfectly :+1:

Those are some icy mods. Very cool… get it? :sunglasses:

Love the deskmat.

Monstargear XO v3 with Sakurio 62g for all keys except for the enter and space where I used Cherry MX Silent Blacks for a little more weight. Keycaps are GMK Hennessey.

It turned out way better than I expected! It’s hefty at over 3 kgs.
