Funny, I feel exactly the same. I donāt want to engage in hype or flipping culture. Itās why I didnāt replace the keyboards with a clone or aftermarket option.
Both āsolutionsā justify hype for the sake of hype, and make the hobby worse for everyone. Thereās imo no keyboard worth redefining the hobby or my engagement around it. Ironically, buying something like a licensed design of an unobtanium item is the biggest signal-to-noise ratio to kill hype. If it puts money in KKās bank account so they sort out their backlog of complaints, all the merrier that the health of some genuinely talented design houses improves.
Iād like to hear your perspective, if only to hear if you would replace any of the hype keyboards you have if they broke or such.
I will say one thing that is odd about these Novelkeys x Keycult offerings is that it says they are all aluminum. So $580 seems like a good deal for a TKL with a large brass accent and weight, but seems a bit steep for brass-colored aluminum anodization.
Yeah they seem really overpriced on todayās market (one could argue they always were) - right when there are sub-$300 choices that are competitive and an ongoing ābig slab of copperā GB (Constance TKL) that has better materials, more modern features and construction for about the same price. Never was a fan of Keycult, still not convinced.
Man, i WISH i could squat like this. Itās crazy to me that in many places on this planet, people just squat every day. My muscles and joints are so weak from decades of sitting. Iāve been focusing on this daily for months now. Iāve made a lot of progress, but I still have a lot of room to improve. Lots of daily stretching, posture fixing while sitting and driving, strength training. Getting old sucks.
If youāre young, listen to those people who tell you you need to get in shape NOW. So much easier to maintain than to build.
I grew up on a farm, years of heavy lifting and manual labor have ruined my lower back and hips. Then I became a copier/printer technician and spent too many hours with my knees/butt on concrete floors. I had a partial knee replacement at 40, now I need a total and the other knee hurts just as bad. Thankfully, I have desk job now. For the first few hours of the morning, I stand and work. Iāll sit until around 3pm, then stand again for the rest of the day My workouts are limited to about an hour on the treadmill and some upper body stuff 3-4 times a week.
Definitely feeling it. Got a standing desk to get my leg muscles back. Turns out it also helps with posture, especially in the morning when I tend to be groggy and slouched.
I had my Unikorn sitting on top of my DAC for a few days. When I went to pick it up it was shockingly warm. I guess the brass weight is a great thermal conductor.
Ha. Iām still so happy with the purchase. Organization is a daily game here. I honestly spend a large part of my day just arranging and organizing keyboard stuff. Itās the meta hobby. Not just keyboard building or keyboard collecting, but keyboard material organization.
I still have many times over what you see on that shelf that I have to make work in a smaller closet space. Iām currently brainstorming a good idea for lighter, plastic boards.
