Yea I guess some of the (GOAT) vendors reached out to Space Cables on the backend to help out with something. NovelKeys also announced the same thing that they have some of Space Cables stock, hopefully Ragan is alright but who knows.

Some tofu with MY cherry. It’s not functional and was just a ā€œproof of conceptā€ for a fun project.

those are WHAT now?

So how do the infamous MY feel?

Scratchy & bindy TBH. The OG all black ones are slightly better than the white ones (although if you find white ones with a V shaped cutout on the slider those are super rare), but overall they’re pretty subpar.

Hmm worthy indeed.

Mine came from a used G81 and they would need a proper ultrasonic cleaning, so they are feeling a little inconsistent. But they aren’t as bad as i thought. Like MX Blacks that bind on off center key presses. They are a lot closer with some lube, but the bottom out still feels and sounds off because of their leaf and such.

Yeah never thought about giving MY a proper lube. I bet that could get them to an acceptable level.

Curious to see what sort of 60% nonsense the previous owner crammed into this Womier SK71 box. I almost certainly overpaid, and, well, miiight have forgotten to note that those perfectly aligned HyperX Pudding caps stopped at RCtrl, LOL.

Goodwill assures me there is in fact a keyboard in there though, and on further review I do see the shadow of the spacebar’s stabs. I suppose if it’s awful enough I could ask for a refund, but we’re not at the high-dollar table here so it’ll need to be pretty bad to offset what an awful person I’d feel like leaning on Goodwill for what I already knew was a gamble.

Best case scenario is probably a Ducky One Mini to go with that USB cord, but I reckon we’re more likely dealing with an Amazon special that could be had brand new for $25. Maybe a candidate for that wooden case I keep thinking about.

I spent the entire day working on my Pneuma. I had a plan going into it. Got it mill maxed and stabilizers tuned.

Then it came time to pick the best switches. My plan on this board had always been Gateron Pro Glory Reds. They have an excellent sound and feel out of the box. The spring isn’t perfect for my taste, but I don’t dislike it.

But then I realize the glory switches were already in another hotswap board. Whoops. I forgot about that.

So I try some other switches in my Pneuma. I get through 5 different full swapouts before I find something that I like the feel and sound of. Scratch, pingy, Haimu pastel sand linears. Go figure. I never liked these before when I tried them out. I can definitely fix the ping later, because it’s all coming from the springs.

The hmmm is coming… i promise. So I’m trying to figure out why these particular switches work better than all of the others I had tried. The bottom-out feels firm. They are stable. The spring feels just right. That must be it.

So I’m pleased with the build with the exception of the spring ping (arguably the worst I’ve ever heard in a switch). I decide to just put on headphones and do some typing.

The switches now feel wobbly and almost too heavy. They are fatiguing. The bottom-out isn’t prevalent enough. I feel like my fingers are tingly from the vibration of the scratchness in the stems.

HMMMMMM…

But I swear to god, when the music fades out and I can hear the typing sounds again, they feel better. More solid…

Apparently my opinion of switches is DRAMATICALLY influenced by the sound of the switch.

I’m still a bit shocked. I dislike them so much with headphones that I might consider rebuilding a 6th time.

I think this is going to be a new method for me. I’m going start committing to 5-10 min of typing with headphones on when I test out new switches.

Has anyone had any issues getting in touch with Vala Supply? I’ve not had an issue with my orders with them before, but I’ve been waiting since November 1st for HSA Toxic and it still says waiting for them to drop off the package.

I’ve tried emailing them twice now but haven’t gotten anything but the automated response. About to start the dispute process with my credit card company.

Was HSA Toxic not an in-stock thing and I missed that some how?

Yes!

Toxic was listed as in stock. I ordered toxic day 1 and it still hasn’t shipped. Label created, no movement.

I emailed support for an update and haven’t heard back.

My guess, they’re still really behind on fulfillment. I have another order they haven’t sent from 4 months ago. GMK Galaxy and GMK Universe. They replied 3 weeks ago saying they had 2 other group buys to fulfill before they got to it. Just busy I hope

Vala has weirdly frequent extreme sales, and I get the sense they can’t keep up with all the orders those generate, but also need the money.

They do seem to be nearing a light at the end of the tunnel in terms of their outstanding group buys. I haven’t noticed them taking on any more at least, while their queue continues to shrink. It’s been this way for a while, and generally they’re okay, but I’d definitely trust your gut if something feels off.

@pixelpusher So I’m not the only one, which makes me feel a bit better. I will give them some more time, then.

And yeah, @Piperaceae, that’s sorta why I wanted to ask, b/c I didn’t want to do a chargeback on them as I know they’re a small shop and I like to support that sort of place. I’m fine if delivery takes some time, but I was concerned mine was an order missed/forgotten (and then they’d sell out of it).

That’s honestly the main reason I’ve never purchased from Vala. The sheer number of Group-buys they were holding was a red flag from a risk perspective.

That’s a little slower than usual for Vala but I suspect they just had more items to ship. People complain about it in their discord all the time, but there have been some communications that they’re trying to fix the issue. I’m fine with the slow processing because I take full advantage of their 40-50% off sales. Small trade off for half price IMO.

I ordered in-stock items from them in April and July this year and both orders took about 17 days from the date I ordered until they were delivered. I’ve never had them not deliver an order, but they tend to be sloooooow.

They denied some rumors in their Discord that they had money problems and that’s why processing was slow. It did sound more like too much work for too few people. I’d hold off on the chargeback for now, but obviously that’s up to you.
