Things that make us go... hmmm šŸ¤”

I really like UHMs & I paid full price for them. At the price Divinikey has them right now they’re an absolute steal IMHO. I’m gonna have to grab some more before they sell out, LOL!

New keycap set when?

I also definitely appreciate the ā€œwhen do you move up?ā€ conundrum from the video.

I mean… :joy:

LOL yeah I guess you have a point. That said, I am gonna need a lavender F-row in… what? MOG? :joy:

I am feeling very smug at having successfully moved the goalposts.

These are not quite RAMA Kate keycaps, but they’re not far off, either. First I’ve seen them at the big A.

That certainly is a bit

What does ā€œDouble Shot Dye-sublimation Processā€ mean? The text goes on to say ā€œAdvanced dye-sublimation technology allows the color to penetrate into the keycapsā€, but the images seem to show something that appears to be double-shot.

It would absolutely not surprise me if these are the product of that first attempt RAMA made with Mastars - they’ve even got the signature ā€œXā€ and ā€œOā€ keys.

I’ve seen what I’m pretty sure are these same keys shipping on Chinese prebuilt keyboards for years, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if both examples represent the manufacturer recouping their expenses from the endeavor.

While zFrontier has said they’ve taken-over custody of the KATE / CAPS project, I’m not sure it’ll ever see the light of day in the end - so these may very well be the closest we’ll see to the caps we ordered all those years ago.

I’ve seen that a few times. I suspect that whoever is tasked with writing copy is just told to make them sound like expensive keycaps, and, whelp, there’s two different ways that expensive keycaps get their legends, so… :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I’m sure that’s true in this case - though I did hear that Keyreative has started doing a combination process where they double-shot PBT and then dye-sub part of the first shot for multiple legend colors.

EZmate connectors… They’re kinda stupid compared to good ole’ JST SH. The height difference is minimal & the connection itself is kinda questionable. Instead of sliding into the header like JST, you have to line up the part on the cable with it’s header then press it down into the header. It has a very tenuous grip when installed in the header making it extremely easy to have the wire disconnect from the DB. I just don’t see any advantages over JST SH, especially considering EZmate is rated for only 10 mating cycles.

…10 cycles?!

Yep after 10 cycles the connection becomes looser & more prone to coming apart since it’s just a friction fit. I mean I’m sure it has it’s uses with much smaller electronics, but just dumb for KBs IMO.

Yeah I can achieve 10 cycles just from my OCD of ā€œBut is it really securely connected? Dunno, better unplug and reseat it to be sure.ā€

I like flat ribbon cables and their connectors are similarly slim. But I don’t like how they are inflexible and need to be folded to stay in place
