Things that make us go... hmmm šŸ¤”

Yea on one hand I’m glad sideloading is an option if needed, but then on the other doing it every time is kinda wack.

They improved this and you only have to do it once

Ohh have they, I probably just didn’t notice when it did do it on it’s own. Which I guess is a good thing lol.

That along with the additional QMK features it exposes is why I am very glad I managed to get VIAL working on my latest build. Getting whitelisted into a github feels very kludgey and not scalable. Of course, it would be nice if the Chinese companies would actually follow the license and open source their QMK forks, but I am not surprised they stick with JSON loading in VIA. Still better than a 100MB windows-only proprietary blob hosted on a Google files link.

A keyboard… waffle iron… birthday?

I’m so glad to see that you not only mentioned Soulcloset in this article, but also interviewed her!

The ā€œdays sinceā€ posts are one of the best parts of r/mk and (IMO) chronicle people discovering the depth of the rabbit hole in real time. They’re such a fun and friendly way to include new-ish-to-the-hobby people in the joke.

Whoever took the marketing shots for PBTfans Iron Dolch needs to be fired.

ā€œLet’s take the worst looking pre-production keycaps with tons of scratches and seams and then use them for our promoā€

Are you talking about the markings/swirls on the keycaps or something else? Cuz that part is at least intended.

Really?? They look like errors to me!

Yeah, I think that’s the ā€œflow marksā€ they’re noting in the description. Probably showing those very intentionally to prevent buyers from being upset when they see them on their keycaps.

Yea at first when I saw the new PBTFans set on KBDFans like a week ago I was like ā€œhmm another dolch set but why, and what’s making it differentā€ then I saw the iron in the name and assumed ā€œah it must have metal in itā€ and confirmed when I read the description saying theres metal mixed in with the plastic.

I’m embarrassed now lol

I mean tbf when I saw the randomized markings on the kitting pictures I only knew that it was probably metal infused plastic because of the handful of other metal infused keycaps that have released so far having similar markings.

I have to admit, I do not immediately see the appeal to this and mostly because it’s a little too subtle. Although I doubt keycaps finished in a 1970’s speedboat metallic would have the same draw for everyone as it would for me.

Nah, PBT fans should still be embarrassed. I get that metallic colored plastic will have some flow lines, but it looks like they aren’t even QCing the worst out. The set looks like junk to me as well even knowing it should have some flow lines.

I think the issue to me is kind of what @rpiguy9907 noticed, the metallic flakes cannot be evenly dispersed. The pool and settle, so you end up with those weird flow lines.

GMK is definitely better than ePBT’s first try at it, but you still get the markings.

I’ve been asking for a case like this for a DECADE.

Would be a good start. But I’d take green or orange as well

Need the case made out of fiberglass too.

Completely forgotten I’d ordered these over a year ago. Kinda glad, because if I’d been waiting on them I’d have been very disappointed. The legend alignment is atrocious.

The legend alignment gotta be some sort of optical illusion because holy that is not good.

Yeah that’s pretty bad. Are you gonna bother to see about replacements or just let this one ride? I’d imagine most sets ended up like that seeing the one you got. Definite shame as we need some quality options for low pro keycaps.
