Things that make us go... hmmm šŸ¤”

I don’t hate this as much for a thumb keyboard, but it’d be pretty bad for anything with normally sized keys.

New stabilizer failure mode unlocked!

Managed to rip the stab stem right out of the housing, cleaving off the front feet in the process. Invokeys stabs, though not really their fault—if it’s anything, it’s my forcing it and the mold tolerances on the cheap Aliexpress caps. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

From the ā€œlate night at the injection-molding factoryā€ department…

  1. Sculpt roughly along the lines of Akko MDA/XVX ā€œISA.ā€
  2. Double shot legends but firmly in the first generation of ā€œkawaiiā€ dye-sub MOA
  3. Keyshape that might be MOA based, but looks more MA based.
  4. Name? ā€œEff it. Call ā€˜em MOA!ā€

I guess I kinda get what they were going for with the font, but it just looks like the molds melted a bit before injection… It’s always interesting how aesthetics can be very cultural-specific. Although, I have a hard time seeing how this could be appealing to anyone

What is up with the Photon’s knob being in the middle of the board? I mean, I’m a fan of the ability to change it out without soldering, but it’s super awkward, especially with the ginormously tall knob included.

The foam kit was also a bit disappointing – the cutout for the JST PH battery connector was too narrow and I had to enlarge it. Also there were no cut-outs for the underglow LEDs (I can do them myself, but it always looks like garbage).

I can kind of understand it with dye sub, right? MOA is a very marshmallowy shape, and I can completely understand a lot of the sets (including almost all of the earliest ones) being kind of cutesy, including the legends. The fact that somebody actually made injection molds for this though… Wow.

The Banana keyboard by RGBKB looks like a very usable ergo unibody and a meme board at the same time.

Not sure where to put this but following up on the Signature Plastics situation, Bob from SP has been really active in the discord lately, and they are looking to make mono-color DCS sets available. Bob’s putting together a form for people to vote on the top five colors - legends will be NN or WFK. Sounds like they want to support mixing and matching and not a huge monokit - Bob is taking kitting suggestions too! I know not everyone here wants to be on discord - will share the form link (unless someone else beat me to it) when it’s available - I’m so excited for more DCS!

That’s great news. I love mono color kits!

My first real hit from tariffs. Actually it is mostly from the end of deminimus exceptions.

We have low tariffs for items coming from the UK so this is mostly port and inspection fees. Your mileage will vary based on port, carrier, etc.

This is the fee for $25 of switches from Prototypist.

$25…

The actual tariff on this should be like $5-$7 so the rest is all fees. A.I. tells me most carriers charge a flat fee between $80-200 per package to handle all the compliance with tariffs.

Wait, this is what they want to charge you for a small package of just switches!? Did they send you this before or after they delivered them? My Gat Lanes I got from Jae are out for delivery today from DHL & I haven’t gotten any emails about any extra fees. I did get my order in & Jae shipped it out before the 29th so I’m hoping I just snuck in before the end of deminimus exceptions. $94 on a $25 pack of switches is just insanity, sorry they’re hitting you so hard bud.

What a shame…

I ordered on the 28th and it shipped on the 29th, but I believe it is based on when the item goes through the port and customs.

UPS charges you the fees on the day of delivery, which is sort of extortionist - and I also believe you have NO recourse, even if you don’t want to pay the fee the port and customs people already did the handling work and you are on the hook for it.

If you don’t pay it your package will be sent back and eventually your handling bill will probably be sent to a collections agency and your credit will go to hell.

DHL might be different. A lot of it has to do with customs brokers, which can be a variable charge or a flat fee. It looks like UPS chose a flat fee for their convenience and ease of billing, but that means even small value packages get charged the $80 fee.

Google Gemini says all carriers are implementing these mandatory fees.

I would guess because they never had the infrastructure to check millions of small packages and now they suddenly have to go through customs brokers.

I see, thanks for the heads up! So I’ll have to keep any eye out as iirc I have heard of people getting bills for duties from DHL after their package was delivered recently. I do agree UPS’s way is pretty extortionist so I’ll definitely be avoiding them for any out of country shipping for the time being. Well if I do get hit with a crazy processing & duties fee I guess at least my purchase was from someone I want to support & for some switches that were sold out in the states AFAIK… Still though this situation is ultra infuriating, the exalted rotten orange needs to go F off & quit pulling strings that line his & his cronies pockets.
