Things that make us go... hmmm šŸ¤”

Yup, probably cheaper to solder in some jumpers than make a two layer pcb

Yep - and there’s even an RGB rainbow strip on either side, plus the basic Outemu-style sockets. It’s admirable all the features this keeb has for the price.

I have an e-yooso that has a similar feature set, its impressive what they cram in there for the price. Those Outemu style hotswaps are finicky when it comes to compatibility with switch pins (especially Kailh which seem to be extra wide and have trouble with mill-max style in general). Have you tested compatibility with various brands of switches? Would be curious to find out if you don’t mind letting us know and/or do some experimenting. From what I’ve read online, Akko switches work with Outemu sockets. Gaterons apparently do as well if you trim the ā€œarrowheadā€ that is on one of the pins.

I’m actually installing some different Outemu switches in here, but I do have a loose Outemu socket or two that I could test with some switches.

Skip in a bit and you can the MASSIVE PCB.

Banggood keeps putting sex toys in the fliers they send me… I’ve never even looked at any sex toys on there…or anywhere for that matter…

I suppose they’re living up to their store name

Jk jk, that’s most unfortunate. Hope they stop doing that.

But that’s a pretty safe bet. 100% of humans are interested in sex, so chances are…

Curiously, Etsy does this same thing. Despite the fact that so far I’ve only purchased keyboard related items, t-shirts, stickers, and a couple pieces of jewelry for my Wife.

But maybe it all just boils down to sex in the end.

Remember the classic

Well instead, I downloaded a keyboard (pic not attached).

the big HMMM wasn’t this fact, but the fact that the designer designed the keyboard to be compatible with costar stabs.

For those newer in the community, you may not remember what costar stabs are, or might think, ā€œaren’t those just plate mounted stabilizers?ā€

Yes they are plate mounted stabilizers, but ithere’s a reason you probably haven’t heard the words ā€œcostar stabsā€ in a sentence in the keyboard community for the last half decade.

because they’re bad.

Makes me wonder why the designer chose this option. it makes me feel:

Even after doing some lubing, the main issue is the actual keyfeel of costar stabilized keyboards. It’s an outdated stab design, which is amazing to think about considering stabs haven’t really changed thaaaaat much in the last… since the invention of keyboards.

TLDR: friends don’t let friends use costar stabs

I remember my early stumble through learning that distinction the hard way…

I had two keebs at the time; one with Cherry style plate mount, and a Filco with Costars. I actually needed info on the Cherry ones, but just searched something like ā€œhow to remove spacebar mechanical keyboardā€ and got a video for Costar style, and was pretty confused for a few minutes.

Let’s say you do have a keeb with those and they need some work - good luck navigating that. Like any other stab type, not all the ones made are the same - or the same level of quality. They’re all based on the same design more or less… let’s just say some are even worse than the already low baseline.

  • Inserts fall out and need gluing or shimming into cap stems to stay in place

  • Gotta be extra careful removing wide caps if you don’t want to break stuff

  • Hope you don’t mind lots of rotation because it’s not going anywhere

  • ā€œWhat’s that? Your space bar switch is North Facing? You’re gonna need a different wireā€ is what I would have have said to Turtle Beach, but I have a feeling they’d have used the wrong wire anyway.

I actually bought a ā€œPureWriterā€ keyboard from Sharkoon mid last year. They do lots of budget stuff for ā€œgamersā€, not only keyboards, and of course use costar style stabilizers even for their new releases. I guess they are pretty well known in europe. Like RedDragon in the US. To all ANSI users I have to say be glad that you don’t use the big ISO enter (ā€œreturnā€ in UK???).

Let this be a warning to you:

It is virtually impossible to seat both ends of both wires into the cap.

I personally find it kinda funny… they’ve been doing it for months, I don’t think they will be stopping anytime soon.

Well, there are some monks that might disagree with that…

Now I’m imagining a recolor of the TTC ACE in black, grey, and purple.

You know, I know a couple of folks who’d absolutely get that if it were a recolored clicky variant.

I think I am one of the only people who really likes split space on a 60%

Pretty excited for that board regardless of the space bar setup!

Agreed!

I appreciate the split space as well. It looks really good with the WKL, and those meaty bezels.
