Things that make us go... hmmm šŸ¤”

So frustrating that this sort of thing keeps happening.

If it’s Kailh’s mission to destroy keycaps, then they are proven pros.

Supposedly, the first time this happened it was a result of an OEM spec never meant for explicit MX-compatibility making it out into the wild, having not been replaced after an initial batch for a specific company’s boards had been made.

It makes some level of sense; the stems are meant for a pre-built board that isn’t intended to have its caps switched regularly like a bunch of us do, instead being designed for one-time, permanent factory installation. I wouldn’t be surprised if those are PBT, but that’s speculation on my part. In this instance, a little plastic stretching (if there even is any on those particular keys) isn’t a big deal - but use those same stems on something like an ABS set from Signature Plastics or Terra Plastics and you might permanently destroy it.

It does seem kind of nuts that they’ve let it happen again, though - and with multiple lines of switches. So far, every recent Kailh switch I’ve tried with that stem shape over-stresses caps.

Dude, I had some of these same struggles. Ugh.

The ANSI Enter key on the BIOI Quad Flexcut PCB is tilted on its left side at a 45 degree angle to accommodate for an optional big ass Enter. This is such a terrible idea. Having the switch take on so much up/down tension versus the normal side-to-side, resulted in some incredibly bindy off-center keypresses and an upstroke ting I’ve never heard before. Plus, for some reason putting the keycap on sideways deformed things enough that the stem no longer fits a GMK cap in the normal south-facing position. WTF. It took sacrificing about half a dozen switch stems to find one with more forgiving tolerances that would actually return the keycap per usual without binding or making that horrible upstroke tick-scratch-pop sound. In hindsight, I should have just built my first ISO board and been done with it. Lol. Live and learn.

Whether for sideways switches, Kailh shenanigans, or whatever - I think the community still needs a cruciform stem shaving tool.

You might be able to find someone willing to part with their cruciformer

I wish I would have taken a screenshot, but I swear this modifier set was marked $45, normally $89 yesterday, the day before the 50% off sale…

I’m curious what one is supposed to do with the mods when you can’t buy the alphas.

Good point. I don’t know if they plan to restock, but they might. They seem to keep everything Mito makes in stock. I guess for now you could pair them with another SA set or pick up the Genespeed gray alphas. Personally, I own R1 Godspeed that I could use these with.

84% off on this… gaming mouse…? :man_shrugging:

I’m sure there’s a reason it’s priced like that, but it’s a mystery to me.

Kind of sad to see more established/official companies like Domikey making clone sets.

REDACTED - I misread DMG as DMK. Probably not Domikey.

thats a yikes and a half from me, and to think I was planning on getting some domikey sets

I can’t see any mention of Domikey in the listing, the font and icons do look similar though

Says Ghost Judges and dubbelshot PBT. Domnikey usually works with ABS.

You are right I read DMG as DMK. Duh! If it were Domikey there would be triple shot options.

As an aside I tried searching for Ghost Judges to learn more, but Google thought I was looking for a Scooby Doo character. :stuck_out_tongue:
