Toto - Donā€™t Chain My Heart

Iā€™d never seen the video - aesthetically the whole thing is unmistakably early 90ā€™s, but the cap and sunglasses the key-man is wearing puts such a perfect bow on it. 10/10 would hang out in 1992 again

Daveā€™s occasional obligatory Aesop post incoming; :rotating_light: WANING: :rotating_light: contains gratuitous horror B-move shenanigans but also poetry somehow:

This video is fifteen years old, but posted last week since his old catalog is now on the new label. :3

Lyrics

[Chorus: Aesop Rock]

We donā€™t need no walkie-talkies, nope no walkie talkies
We donā€™t need your coughing when offing the morning coffee
No, we donā€™t need no walkie-talkies, nope no walkie-talkies
We just want our hermitry to stay and our coffee to go

[Verse 1: Aesop Rock]

And the last shall be
First to immerse in the pass out heat
Face in the mud where the moxie melt
'Till he woke up drowning in tchotchke hell
More in a cave with a torch on the wall
Than a window arrangement of porcelain dolls
On a brand new day, saw what he saw
Property owners who crawl to the mall
With a bad toupee and a face like he author the law
Pace like he mourning a loss
Right hand on a can of worms
Left full of gold he will trade for turf, I mean
Thatā€™s ok, you got to answer to you at the end of the volatile day
But a model of mercy and might, no way
Marionette who will clap and obey
Dude, look, all that noise
Call that flight of the water boys
Meet and greet and they all slap five
Cheek to cheek when they colonize
And a grown-ass man shall abide as he wish
Walk that path with a dime and a stick
Walk that path with a diamond and wine
Walk that path to the firing line
Just walk, pay no mind
To the new recruit with the play-doh spine
Letā€™s be friends from opposite ends
Wave to the kid donā€™t hop on the fence
Play to the radius far and away
Orbit wide donā€™t park in his space
One little martyr who talk in his face
Make one little Weathermen sharpen the blades

[Chorus: Aesop Rock]

We donā€™t need no walkie-talkies, nope no walkie talkies
We donā€™t need your coughing when offing the morning coffee
No, we donā€™t need no walkie-talkies, nope no walkie-talkies
We just want our hermitry to stay and our coffee to go

[Verse 2: Aesop Rock]

And the last shall be
First to the curb with the mad cow meat
Face in the bars of a regular cell
When he woke up high in collectible hell
Boom town kid who was taught by the binge
That a man who expire with the most shit win
Thatā€™s warpy American nonsense penned by the rich
Not a routine friend in a pinch
Still not used to the stench
How it throws off otherwise lucid events
In the case the afraid observe
I got a Pro-Keds box full of laymanā€™s terms, it goes
Hey, peace, pray for the plagued
Major relief and capacious rains
But just cuz I donā€™t want to war with you
It donā€™t mean go warm up the barbecue
Iā€™m like pardon you, sawed off limit
My high noon is a quick little minute
I donā€™t wanna spend it sitting with a critic
Who simply isnā€™t going to ever really get it
This HQ is alive and alone
No driveway no sign of a home
No dial tone, no line for the phone
No worldā€™s tiniest violin song
And I might just lie to them all, lie in the morgue
With a deep breath hiding and bored
Fighting a smile, highly annoyed
When the timing is right I will rise and record
Call for the monster beats and Blockhead got
Animal drums like heā€™s doctor teeth
It goes red light green light 1 2 3
One large coffee, fuck you, peace

[Bridge: Aesop Rock]

T-A-K-E-N-O-P-R-I-S-O-N-E-R-S

T-A-K-E-N-O-P-R-I-S-O-N-E-R-S
T-A-K-E-N-O-P-R-I-S-O-N-E-R-S

[Outro: John Darnielle]

I crawled down to the basement
When the weather got cold
Like a lost lamb returning to the fold
And when the outside world recedes from view
Itā€™s just a yearā€™s supply of make-up
And memories of you
1967 Colt 45, holding back the vampires
Keeping me alive
Thereā€™s an envelope with some cash in it
Out by the front door
This is what they make you take the medication for

Brandon Coleman - Interstellar Black Space

Their latest offerings have really left me wanting but I still consider Metric one of my favorite bands of all time.

Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five - Wings

First time I heard this song was on the Classic Rock satellite radio station playing at work. I didnā€™t know the band performing was Wings, and I definitely didnā€™t realize the vocalist was Paul McCartney. Having played right after Lynyrd Skynyrd, I figured this was another dixie-rock band. Got a chuckle when I looked it up later and realized who Iā€™d been listening to.

Randomly came across this song again, havenā€™t heard it in 30+ years. Reminds me of the good old days.

Abominable disco foxā€¦ man, unfond childhood memories. And when the pain begins to crawlā€¦

Fleetwood Mac - The Chain

One of my all-time favorites. I used to watch F1 in the old days when this was the theme song, so this takes me back.

For some reason, when I hear the chorus I always think of being in a car, going back home after holidays. Probably because the radio played that song quite a lot.

Always a good album to return to.

Third Man Records just put out a reissue of Sleepā€™s Dopesmoker. So Iā€™m listening to that today. The link below isnā€™t to the remaster, but it is available on streaming services.

If youā€™ve never heard of Horror Surf - well, you have now.

While my introduction to the genre was a side project an EDM musician called Savant did under the pseudonym ā€œThe Christopher Walkensā€, I think the real torch-bearers here are Messer Chups.

heck yeah, gonna rock out to this when I get my GMK Freight Club set

I mean, the genre makes sense. Surf rock is campy, and B movies are campy. Perfect combo. Is it mostly surf rock in minor keys?

Pretty much. Itā€™s like The Munsters intro as a whole genre. A lot of it is instrumental, but thereā€™s also lots of it with lyrics, which are generally B-monster-movie themed.

Itā€™s like if The Misfits were surfers instead of angery muscle bois.

Been bouncing between late 90ā€™s techno, ambience and the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 soundtrack :joy: It actually slaps.

I wake up singing this song like 25% of the time. Donā€™t know why. Well, itā€™s a goddamn banger of a songā€¦ I guess thatā€™s why. Also, why donā€™t people produce music like anymore? What a mix! Feels like everything I hear in the past decade is all 2 channel mono. This sound stage is huge.
