I’m a sucker for older games. Currently playing Halo 2 these days on the Master Chief collection. Desperately hoping for a Tony Hawk Pro skater 4 release in the microsoft store.
If a sim for work training counts as a video game, I’ve been “playing” MS Flight Simulator a lot lately. Turns out, it’s actually got that gamey aspect while also being quite realistic. Worth getting if you’re into that kind of games
Top Golf for a company wide team building thing. Finished 1st in my group and 3rd overall in the company.
I just finished up Doom Eternal which was incredibly fun (2016 Doom I thought was great but now in comparison it feels unpolished).
Today I’m back on Hades, which I played a ton during lockdowns. I’m uhh pretty good at Hades to the point where I’ve written a gigantic guide on how to play it and I’ve finally figured out how to properly record my gaming so I’ve been fleshing out my collection of gameplay videos.
This is amazing! I played Hades up to beating the final boss for the first time, then I changed computers and haven’t reinstalled it. Seeing this post is really inspiring me for another playthrough
Awesome! How are you liking it? Are you a big fan of FromSoft games in general? Or just into Mechs?
Loving it; been an AC nerd since renting the first one from Blockbuster in the late 90s. Excluding a Japan-only PSP release and the V generation of games, I’ve got the whole series.
As for other From games, I played a little King’s Field here and there but never really grasped it as a kid - same for Eternal Ring (not the Elden one). I was late to the Souls party but have been loving all of those.
AC6 is somewhere between 3 and 4 in terms of its pace and control, which I think is the sweet spot. I have yet to shake off the rust and git gud, but I am having a blast sucking at this game.
Neat! I am glad you got another game if your favorite series. Mech games need to make a come back! Hopefully this one will really kick the doors open.
I have been having a desire to play a game lately but haven’t been able to actually settle on one I want to play.
The last game I was playing was the Metroid Prime Remaster on Switch. I got about 80% done with the game and just decided to stop. I really like Metroidvanias, and Prime does a lot of things really well, but I think the move to 3d just removes a lot of what I like about a Metroidvania.
Backtracking was tedious and slow. They did a really good job with platforming in a 3d space, but at the same time it is still platform jumping when you can’t see your feet… I get that this game was one of the first console shooters, but I kept finding myself comparing it to Halo. Prime is more of a first person adventure game in a shooter body, but I really just want it to be a shooter.
Here’s hoping that Metroid Prime 4 leans into being more of a shooter. I think it would be really cool to have a Halo like or even an arcade fps like the recent Doom remakes on Switch using the Metroid franchise. I do think they need to come up with some better enemies though. I found that a lot of the classic Metroid enemies did not translate well to Prime. It was really dorky shooting at grass and stuff on the walls early in the game, and by the time I got to some more interesting baddies, I found their patterns to be annoying.
Ultimately, the game does some really cool things and does them well, but I don’t think it is a game that clicked with me.
Nice, can’t wait to grab this! Heard good things so far, hope it lives to the original. That was one great game! How you liking this so far?
Does diving ever deeper into home labbing and setting up Home Assistant count as “playing”? Super fun nonetheless.
Honestly I’m amazed.
y amazed tho
When I first heard it was being made I immediately wrote it off as [popular publisher-related hashtag] shenanigans, but I’m happy to say my cynicism was misplaced if reasonable in context.
The original is one of my favorite games ever, so I’d have been dampening my expectations either way - but darn if it hasn’t been exceeding those by actual miles.
I’m around 5 hours in so I can only speak to the first portion of the game, but so far it’s shockingly faithful to the source material while updating the tech and bringing in the artistic sensibility of a different team. There are points at which they elect to change where things are or how they play out, and so far every instance of that strikes me as a good change.
Not only that, but for each instance of that kind of change I’ve found, there’s been a subtle but explicit acknowledgement to old fans, as if to say, “We see you noticing this change, here’s a nod to how you remember it.”
The Lynchian vibe has been dialed-back just a little bit in exchange for some physical and social realism, but I think that fits well for a remaster - and there’s no shortage of surrealism, madness, and character intrigue.
With the publisher’s track-record I was expecting a cynical cash-grab, but instead it sure looks like I got a straightforward, faithful remake of my literal favorite piece of horror media.
Are there any fun and easy PC game?
I’ve been watching people stream UFO 50 for weeks, so I finally took the plunge.
This has to be in the running for game of the year. If you enjoy authentic retro games, give it a shot.
I’ve been playing TCG Card Shop Simulator. Scratches the itch to open packs of cards without having to blow far too much money on it.
That game looks so cool. I love the idea around it, I just don’t know if I would love playing it.
