Got the temp set up all blue before the custom comes in
stay frosty
There’s nothing better I’ve seen for desoldering through hole parts! I forgot how good it was until I had to desolder 20 RJ45 connectors the other day
Good to hear. I have two boards to desolder, and a couple of macro pads. I figured this would be a lot faster, and work the cost given the time savings in the long run.
Welcome to a whole new world of desoldering. You’ll never love a BRRRRRR quite like the FR-301
Light years faster. Just make sure to keep the tip tinned.
the worst though is the brrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmp. oh shit, it’s clogged
for me it was brrrrrrr oh shit the tip is hosed up and pulled up the last five pads i tried to desolder
The second board to arrive in my collection.
Got a vintage Apple M0110 and it’s sidekick the M0120 in the mail today.
Can’t wait to take it apart and see what I might be able to do with it. I want to try it as it is, and then maybe see about swapping parts out for some modern switches and caps much later. I saw a good build thread on here about that, so I’ll definitely be reading into that. Got it with a known issue on the caps lock, but I’ll see what I can do that about that too. Very very excited!
Nice score. These are both getting pretty rare and expensive so I don’t know about modifying them if they are working okay, but I did modify my mostly non-functional M0110 to take modern Cherry switches, which is probably what you were referring to. What is the issue with the caps lock? The locking caps lock works weirdly on modern computers, so it’s possible that it’s working as intended but seems broken.
I was referring to your thread. Hi! Great thread btw.
So I need to get in and see for myself what the previous owner has done. This is what his post said when he sold it:
I [previous owner] tried modding the lock switch on the caps lock key on the M0110 into a normal switch by shaving off part of the plastic. The result: The key wobbles and feels a bit heavier on off-center key presses. It’s not too bad but I would recommend replacing this switch with a lock switch.
I bought knowingly bought it like this. Sounds like he’s talking about the switch, and not the key or the board. But I’ll have some time tomorrow night to inspect for myself and see. It does wobble on pressing like he said.
Sounds like you need to replace the switch then. Not sure how hard it is to find a locking switch for these boards though.
D’oh!!!
I ordered some washers for the stabs, one black one white…
They were really cheap, but hey washers suppose to be cheap so I didn’t notice when I put in the order…
Sweet classic boards! If you don’t know already, Chyrosran22 on YouTube has a great series of videos about restoring Alps switches. I’ve yet to try them myself, but a clean set of those is supposed to be loads better than Mattias or other contemporary Alps-compatibles.
I’ll check those videos out tonight. thanks for the tip
