What did you get in the mail today? (Part 1)

Wow what the fuck this looks so slick. Same design language as the radiance I’m waiting on. Was this a GB, or is this a proto?

One of my very cute friends bought one after seeing it in a random discord announcement channel and I copier her lol. There’s so little info on it and one single video in Chinese, so I just kinda said whatever and bought one.

GUYS! I got my Keychron K8 today! I love it so much! I’m still getting used to it after years working on the behemoth that is the Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard (of course). Here’s to the start of a beautiful friendship. I name her Kittykeys. Yes, I name my electronics, and they are all girls, I will die on that hill. My PC is named Guinevere (no that is not the PC name in the OS, there I go for ridiculously arcane). I have three keycaps to try, but I’m holding off on switches for a while because I went through all discretionary income with what I’ve got so far  Plus this gives me time to understand if I like clicky switches as much as I think I do. This had gateron blues in it.

Got some more TX stabs in from our resident parts slanger @heebiekeebies! Packed well & shipped quickly, definitely recommend using Mr.Keebies services if you’re in the US! :+1:

Lots of good stuff!

  • JWICK Reds. I bought these intending to make frankenswitches with them but I’m reconsidering - they sound decent on their own but I need to put them in a board and live with them a little.
  • Gateron Pro Reds. Like the Silvers, they have a longer spring so that made them interesting enough to warrant trying. They definitely have a unique press feel so I think these will be fun to try out as well.
  • TX 60g Mediums and 55g XLs. The mediums are for silent frankenswitches. The XLs? I’m a sucker for TX springs so of course I’m going to try their new ones.
  • GPL 106 so I can give lubing switches with oil a go.
  • PCB foam because I want to play with the sound profile of one of my Prophets. Also came in the world’s most ridiculously oversized box.
  • Beautiful Divinikey sticker, like always.

This is a very nice purchase!
One of my colleagues bought it recently and he is very happy with it.
If you miss a numpad they also sell one at a very affordable price.
Plus you can buy plates of different material and change switches as you like.

That is really cool.

I didn’t get in on Aurora R2, because I didn’t like the colours on offer.

Hopefully, they will offer some more diverse blues, grays for the plastic.

I need one with a polycarb plate for a Zealio V1 build. Your FR4 plate with big flex cuts sounds interesting. Let us know what it’s like!

I went to a mini meetup yesterday. There were a couple of Ikki’s there. One guy had one of the pink ones, I was really impressed with how the color turned out on that one. Same guy was impressed how the “fog” color turned out on mine compared to the renders. I know there was a purple one in the group-buy that sounds like there was some drama over because the end result was more “pink” than purple. From what I heard, I believe Wuque was offering partial refunds.

The FR4 plate is still really flex-y. I removed some of the silicone to help (brass weight part and battery part). My build overall came out really “clack-y”, I am using KAT Lich and Holy Pandas. Not really the sound I was going for, but over all it is unique to my roster of boards and pleasant to the ears.

I am pretty impressed with the board so far. I think it will be great for a travel board too and from work which is why I was interested in it. Heavy enough to stick to the desk, but light enough to throw in a backpack. My only really nitpicks are with the hotswap plate offering so many configurations, some of the switches are oriented weird. “|” has a side ways switch along with “enter” in by config. “|” has the keycap slightly wonky, but I don’t think it is really that noticeable unless you look for it. “Enter” sticks a little bit for me but I think that is a combination of using 63.5g HPs and the fact that they switch is oriented weird. I might swap a different switch in for this key, but right now it is not bothering me too much.

Couple guys are the meetup were discussing being a little disappointed with the thin brass weight, and the fact that if you get a more transparent case, the weight will not show on the bottom due to silicone. One comment that the weight in the KDB67 lite is heavier, but I can’t really confirm that personally. The RGB is a little disappointing as well, but I am not really into that so it doesn’t effect me.

Yah, the pink one looked good even in renders. I mean, it seemed like it was going to be a real classic.

I hear you on the hotswap orientation - it’s weird.

My current Aurora is hotswap, but I am planning a soldered PCB for the Zealio one. Just because of the sheer cost of the switches! I don’t want to lose them.

Honestly, the Aurora is an amazing board, although “soft” may be the only option for it. I would only use a soldered one for a travel board, because of durability issues. Shocked to hear about the disappointment over the brass weight. Sure, it may be light. But the etching on it is exquisite. [I am not using it, as I enjoy the light weight].

I think IKKI68 would be smart to offer R3 in two-tone configuration. I.E. a blue bottom with frosted polycarb top. Frosted top will make the board assume the colour of the base. Also, contrasting materials [alum and polycarb] would reduce the resonance that creates ping. You wouldn’t need to “Force-break” mod it.

Ooh, I like how slim the CK ones are.

Got my first dcs set today. I heard good things about these light weight keycaps work well with light tactile switches. Going to test that out today.

I like the cannonkeys ones bc they are cheaper and slimmer yet still have a spot to put labels. However, this batch is really stinky. Not smelly like a shoe foam smell (I love that smell) but closer to burned plastic smell. I’m airing them out for a few days before I try storing anything in them.

Oof. Cool posting an update after a couple days to see if the smell goes away?
