Keyreative mint blanks from TheKeyCompany came today…adding some highlight mods to the Prussian blues that came last week.

The colors don’t look quite right in the pic, especially the mint. Someone called it green shifted teal, which is accurate.

…on grey Brutal65 v2

Recently, I pulled out an old board built with 67g Zealios V1’s back in 2018 to try them again. I had previously sworn them off as not my ideal tactile (rounder, higher up bumps were more desirable), and the build has been in a case for almost four years. I have to say that I really enjoyed typing on them again. I still have the gripe of noisy contact leaves. If they grow on me enough, I may desolder them and finally build my Xeno which will be very on theme, lol.

Another set of random switches. Those were interesting to me because of the ridiculous tolerances. +/- 20gf tolerance. I need to build a full board with them some day so i can test if i can actually notice that big of a difference between them.

Lol wut - that’s like 30% of the total measurement…

I did get some meme-level 150gf-ish Flashquark springs that were noticeably inconsistent, but since I only used those for individual keys like ESC or CapsLock it’s not such a big deal. Having that kind of variability on something they bothered to label down to a half-unit is laughable…

I feel like “±20gf” is more likely to be a typo in lieu of “±2gf” - but hey stranger things have happened.

Mailday today. My „KBT Re:66“ arrived finally as PC66 with slight different specs than ordered. Gateron Pro Brown instead of Cherry and PC plate no FR4. Quite surprised by the switches.

Also G205 lubed Akko Lavender Purple and printed cases for the Corne and the Banime40

I wonder if IBM sent them a letter or something complaining about previous design. The KBt logo was very nice. Sad to see it go.

Yes absolutely. Now they include a silver and a black vortex Logo. I would also way prefer the KBT Re. But the plate on the back is nice.

I think they only did that as a “limited edition” badge to make it rare and more desirable

I got a batch of Cherry MX Black "Ultraglide"s from RNDKBD to outfit my Tomo (in the most basic b. way possible, I know ). Well, at least when ApexKeyboards finally sends me mine.

I’ve never purchased Hyperglides, but knowing that they are scratchier than the previous Retooled versions, I thought that I would take a gamble on broken in switches (the extra cost was offset a bit by a recent 20% off sale which made them quite affordable at 59 cents per switch).

I have to say that I’m quite impressed with the result of the 600k actuation variant. They have no feel or sound of scratch, but due to the incredibly tight tolerances with the stem you get a light swishing sound that is reminiscent of the first UHMWPE stems that came out. Lubed and filmed (and swapped out those garbage springs) they sound and feel just as smooth as the recent bunch of 8008 Inks that I acquired, but feel much more stable.

I received this $40 Desko PBT set from Zfrontier, actually part of the NCR80 R3 Run:

The quality looks quite good for the price, but those modifiers seem to be a little off…

Looks very nice, how’s the feel?

Received part one for my first build experiment

My first 40. So you have to get used to it. The first thing that rushes strongly is that there are no numbers. And you feel how they are missing.
The keyboard itself needs some work. You need a break force mod, and maybe glue a piece of Shumkov to the bottom where the usb is. Since this edge is more strongly recessed downwards under its own weight.
Stabilizers are fine. There is no rattling. But the lubrication is only on the bracket, so the dry stem itself hangs and rubs, the sound is so unpleasant.
The backlight is not that bright. Maybe it’s a minus or a plus.
This piece weighs nicely. Not easy. The coverage is normal. Not premium. But for the price its normal.

There is flex on an aluminum plate, or it is steel, I still do not understand.
The flex is not as strong but just enough to not feel like hard hits.
In the future, you can try to make the flex even stronger. Replacing the foam rubber with another. On soft, or make the size smaller, which will give stronger creasing of the foam rubber.
