What did you get in the mail today? (Part 1)

OK, so these are nothing like Zeal’s Clickiez. Well they still take inspiration from ALPS switches, but simplified ALPS & clones, not the more sought after complicated ALPS. Although TBH, I think this design makes more sense in a MX package. Looks like I’ll have to order at least a few just to have.

Ronzilla has stomped into the chat… So cute though you can’t be mad at him! Also finally got my MX Purples in & yep they’re clears. At least the new springs seems to be better than the usual garbo ones Cherry used, not much ping or metallic sounds from them. Other than that though MX2As are pretty underwhelming for all the hype Cherry tried to put behind them.

holy cow, Ronzilla is HUGE. Love it.

Yeah he is a little bigger than I expected, a definite bonus in my book! He’s really squishy too, will make a great stress toy. He springs right back to life after being squished as well LOL!

If it’s using the same little screen you can buy independently and sit on your desktop, I’d imagine it’s using an app from the vaguely shady “Turzx” site.

While it will start with Windows if you so choose, it often won’t go to sleep with Windows. Meaning it will stay on until you manually intervene. Reading their forums, users have asked for the ability to have it turn off when the PC is locked or some other state, but so far there hasn’t been any updates that allowed that.

It’s also possible to make your own screens, but I’ve not had that patience to crack into that.

Yep, that’s what it uses. It’s not as easy as the Matrix screens that have built in storage, but it will do. It’s nice to have something bigger like this for more detail. Currently browsing through pixel art stashes for more fun stuff.

I like that!

Not mine. But it looks nice on the display :grinning:

Got my latest order from Unikeys in today! Got myself two sets of TX AP clip-in stabs (one for 1.6mm & one for 1.2mm PCBs), then also got a batch of Gateron SLAY Type - Ls & HMX Canglan V2s. Both feel really nice in the quick hand test, the Type Ls are really smooth! Then the Canglans really seem like winners to me! They have all the good points of other HMX switches, but are definitely much quieter & much lower pitches than their other offerings. If you’ve been put off from HMX switches because of their reputation to be fairly loud & more on the higher pitched side I would say to give these ones a try. The only drawback with them to me is the fact they are only 3.5mm travel, which is admittedly a me problem LOL!

Edit: Hey @Deadeye, have you tried either of these switches yet? Would be interested on your takes on them if you have!

I haven’t! I’m curious about both, though - been loving what both Gateron and HMX have been doing lately.

K, will give you my review on them when I get a chance to use them!

Not in the mail today, but this week and just now getting around to unpacking them.

Grayish Review-ish Post

Popped the EF Grayish tactiles in one of my QK60s and I have to say, these are actually pretty good, although some of the specs I have seen online are wrong about the spring they come with.

I decided to compare them against my Heavy Tactile baseline, the much heralded U4T.

While the stems are the same length, the Grayish switches have a little more travel.

The incorrect specs that I can find (at least on CannonKeys site) is that the Grayish comes with a 59g 15mm dual-stage spring, but in my testing, I was seeing ~47g at the bump, and the spring inside was 21mm and dual-stage.

For comparison, the U4T I have is a 62g 15mm spring and I was consistently hitting 60g on my Amazon Special force gauge.

I tried my hand a measuring the bump from the rear of the switch as well as the width of the stem itself to see how aggressive the U4T is in relation to the Grayish, but doubt that it was as good of an indicator as just a visual comparison.

I will give these a shot with the current spring in them as the big bump with a lighter dual-stage spring feels pretty good for all day use.

For these being a shortened travel switch, they aren’t overly poppy. In fact, in my QK60 with a PC plate and only bottom case foam, they would pass the Office Test as not being so loud they would annoy the person in the next cubicle. :+1::relieved:

Factory lubing is honestly not too bad and the upgraded pins definitely feel sturdier.

Overall, not a bad switch. I will try it out in a week or so with a heavier spring, as close to listed specs as possible to see if my opinion changes, but if the quality of the rest of the switch is any indication, EverFree is a great budget option or starter switches for folks getting into the hobby. :+1:

Yeah it seems Gateron has really stepped up their factory lube game. The Smoothies I got seem like they can be used stock. I’m waiting on my DR-70F to try them though. Not confident in the factory lube enough to solder them into something.

I soldered mine into my Saturn60 stock. I’m still happy with my decision!

Symbiote. Almost the longest I’ve ever waited on a GMK set. Pre order in July of 2021

Wow, why did it take so long? Did something go wrong with a vendor? Did production get delayed somehow? Well, late is better than never, I guess. Glad that you eventually got it.

What’s the record?

No real issues other than rounds of color revisions with the designer and GMK. Each time it would be about 3-4 months between GMK making a color sample, shipping it to the designer, and then the designer submitting feedback. Then you would see a new color sample in about 4 months. :joy:

I was going to say OG Hyperfuse was the longest I ever waited but it wasn’t. Symbiote took longer! Granted, some buyers still don’t have their Hyperfuse sets.
