It came soldered in an ISO-ish layout. But I can rebuild and it even came with a spare plate and Hotswap PCB. All that for 1/2 the group buy price. Picking up good deals left and right lately!
Another non-keyboard purchase, but with being in the office 3 days a week now (and my work admitting they were most definitely not going to buy us nice chairs…), I went and bought a used, very good condition Leap V2 chair that I can take into the office (and keep my Aeron at home). Picked it up for a pretty decent price and it’s in almost new condition and was very well taken care of.
I received a Cornix from Jezail Funder Studio’s Frank. It’s a really cool pre-built wireless split in a nice alu case, supporting Vial. I’m probably going to turn it into my daily driver after some tweaking. It required a reflash to work properly, but now the nasty NKRO issues have gone. No proper documentation or product page atm, so I’ve included some instructions in my review:
Got my batch of Gateron Lanes in today & have just had time to do a quick in hand feel/sound test, but just from that I’m gonna say these are the real deal! Of course on a side by side comparison to SKCM Oranges they don’t 100% feel/sound the same, although I don’t think you could get any closer in a MX housing TBH. They do feel & sound very similar though, I’m highly impressed TBH cause I was a bit dubious on the claim of them even being close proper tactile ALPS switches. So I’ll eat my words on that one . They’re also a tactile switch through & through IMHO. Not sure why they call them semi silent clickies as there isn’t a hint of click noise from them at all. If I had to guess I’m thinking they may start to get a click after extensive use like tactile ALPS will & calling them semi silent clickies covers Gat’s butt on that.
Beyond the comparison to Orange ALPS these have a fairly light tactility & nice light feel to them. They’re advertised as 60g springs, but feel a good bit lighter than that to me TBH. The keystroke is ultra smooth & no spring or leaf noise to be found! I really like the rail system they use to interface the sliders with the bottom housing. It definitely reduces wobbling & seems to also reduce the amount of surfaces touching between the two. I gotta work tonight unfortunately, but I will be getting these into a board tomorrow & will report back on how they perform!
I appealed to Mike for NK to grab some today when he was streaming, but I think Bowl restocking will be our best shot at getting them from a US vendor anytime soon. Not sure when he plans to restock, but as nice as these are the demand should be more than high enough for him to get more. If I do hear of any US vendors that have them I’ll definitely let you guys know!
Super exciting! May have to order some. I’m curious: have you tried Zeal Clickiez in tactile mode? If you have, how do the Lanes compare in your opinion (aside from the fact that I imagine they’re much lighter than the Clickiez)?
Yes I have tried Clickiez in both weights & in all three modes. The Lanes are actually much closer to the true tactile ALPS feel IMHO even though Clickiez uses a complicated ALPS style leaf & Lanes use a simplified (mantis) style leaf. The Lanes are also much less aggressive feeling, much quieter of a switch, & feel lighter than even the 40g Clickiez. Overall the Lanes are what I was hoping the Clickiez would be in tactile mode, the MX spec housing just doesn’t have enough room for a complicated ALPS like click/tactile leaf to have anything other than a hyper tactile feel.
That’s exactly what I thought when I heard the claims at first, in fact the only reason I gave the Lanes a shot was cause Jae from Prototypist urged me to try them & backed up the claim that these do actually have the ALPS feel. I know he’s been in the hobby at least as long as me if not longer & has plenty of experience with SKCM/L ALPS switches. So I decided to give them a shot & was not disappointed! As far as a US vendor goes Bowl did get some, but they quickly went OOS. I also gave Mike from NK a little nudge to stock them if possible. So I’m hoping the hype behind these switches is enough for Bowl to get more stock of them.
