It is pretty confusing. It varies by state, county, and city.
If weāre talking sales tax, each US state sets their own sales tax rate, but some localities add additional taxes to it. So you could end up with a state tax + county tax + city/region tax if the vendor is located someplace like Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon donāt have any state sales tax, but some counties or cities in those states have the option to set their own local sales tax.

While i do get pissed at VAT when importing from US to the UK, when i eventually have to deal with taxes it sounds a lot easier here in the UK than the US.
My US Tax golden rules:

File electronically by any means necessary

If you have any income more complicated than a paycheck, use a CPA (tax professional) for good measure

Donāt contract as a primary source of income if you want things to be simple
3a. If you contract as a primary source of income, ask your CPA how much you should set aside. Set up an extra bank account for it, and have your bank move that proportion into that account when you make income deposits.

This is actually hard to avoid, IMO, since you have to deal with insurance, bank statements, etc. And if you have investments it gets even more complicated.
And if you are into Cryptocurrency thatās a whole other level of stuff to deal withā¦

oh manā¦ missing keycap is the worst. Iāve yet to permanently lose one, but theyāve sure gone missing for days.
The worst is when itās just one, too. Because if Iām missing a lot of a set, that means itās in another bin or on a board in a case. But if itās just oneā¦ I start thinking the worst. OMG, Iāve thrown it away and this set is useless now.
Just picked up some more 16qt bins today to help keep my keycaps organized, actually. Perfectly timed post.

My family has 1 income (mine) and I have 3 dependents. So it turns out Iām in a negative tax bracketā¦
I messaged payroll on why they arenāt withholding any federal tax and they basically told me I have too many kids to be taxed. Did 3 different tax calculators and it turns out if I pay 0 in taxes over the course of the year I still get a refund.
At one point doing my 2021 taxes I owed the government $5.4k and was freaking out, but once I entered the kidsā info there was a $8k swing in my favor.
