I donât think we have ever tried anything outside of MX yet. Could be something for us to look intoâŚ

A rerun of IFK Sanctuary Rebirth perhaps?
That CRP keycaps are quite easy to scratch, at least in the case of my HAD 2551 R3s. I was doing a color comparison to XMI and took my fingernail to the BAE on a whim. Sure enough, a glossy streak appeared on the CRP while nothing happened to the XMI cap. Not exactly what Iâd call normal wear and tear but thatâs largely what caused such a fuss with Monokeiâs initial keycap rollout.
TIL that GMK keycaps can be useful in toning down overly clacky boards.
My hands often get sweaty and love the clacky sound from thick PBT keycaps like CRP, ePBT, and sets from 21kb. But Cherry blacks with Cream stem in Polaris wasnât getting much time in daily rotation bc it was overly clacky. I mean, I like clean tapping and raindrop sounds at reasonable pleasing level but this combo of parts was producing sound at a jarring level.
Being familiar with sound profile of GMK keyset, I figured ABSâs mildly muffling, pitch-lowering effect could be used to rein back the sound so I tried it and was well rewarded with a Polaris build that sounds premium again.
I appreciate that your taste is narrow and specific as it lends to your insights being detailed and kind of⌠results driven. Nice!
Thx. It took me awhile to realize full extent of complexity in this hobby. Some combinations just sucks regardless the quality of their parts, like birthday cake topped with herring instead of cherry.
Congrats! Iâve purchased IFK WoB and Cafe, some nice looking sets. Good luck on branching out!
Pozidriv screws work better with a Pozidriv screwdriver
Left Phillips, Right PoziDriv (note the marks between the + indicating Pozidriv)
Learned this a while back and ordered a driver but its been sitting in the toolbox⌠Till this weekend when I assembled a Lommarp Ikea cabinet. Screws drived in smoothly and did not cam out unlike some of my previous Ikea assembly adventures.
These screws are often used in cabinet hinges and most things Ikea that looks like a Phillips screw.
Will be repurposing old shelf for keyboards
Thatâs cool. I need to order a bit for IKEA stuff!
If you donât grow up with a dad who works in a hardware store, I guess youâd never notice.
Cool didnât realize this. I think this describes Phillips drivers in my iFixit set.
I learned Dropâs DCX keycaps are manufactured by a company called Tera Plastics - it was right on the receipt.
Theyâve been around since the late 80âs and serve all sorts of industries, and it looks like they started officially offering keycap manufacturing sometime late 2019 / early 2020.
The image on their site shows the Drop CTRL; Iâd previously assumed those were Tai Hao caps because they sell some very similar looking ones, but maybe theyâre from Tera. Itâs also possible they just grabbed an image from Drop; Tai Hao does still sell caps that look just like those and there doesnât appear to be any overlap between the two companies.
Thatâs pretty fascinating. Also the fact that you know clone companies can just contract with Tera to run copies of DCX with Dropâs molds and face no legal ramifications since theyâre in China. Wonder how long that will take? Any wagers?
Looks like their HQ is in Taiwan so there would be legal ramifications.
true. I donât know where I saw a Chinese address before, but sure enough, it says Taiwan.
Ah, I see. it says located in China and Taiwan, but the contact is an address in Taiwan.
Yeah. Business relations between Taiwan and China is deeply tangled and vary widely so difficult to tell how the company operates and will behave when shit hits the fan.
From what I understand they make all of dorps stuff MT3, DCX, DCP, etc. And that Dorp owns most of the machines.
Would be stupid of them to destroy that relationship to make cheap clones.
