It just now randomly occurred to me that “Aliaz” is probably a sort of legally-distinct word-play on “Zealio”
Perhaps even… an alias for it?
You are ready to be a dad.
Interesting idea! Is IFK owned by The Key Company as well? Makes me wonder if a model like this was part of their business plan all along? Mass market, themed bundles sold to communities or businesses.
MOQ is 100 so companies REALLY have to want this keyboard swag.
Google themselves have more than 100 employees
So, um. Yeah, VIA on the web/Chrome is pretty nice to use. I should probably drop my “pfft. why not just program it directly in QMK?” elitist attitude.
There’s a budget keeb subreddit:
Interesting. Speaking of budget keyboard gear, my brother-in-law has recently starting purchasing a lot of Akko stuff. I tried it out and I’m quite impressed. It’s impressive the quality you can get for relatively cheap now. Keyboards are well built and sound good, spherical caps are really impressive, switches felt and sounded premium.
Best budget keyboard is still the Model M!
Is it really budget tho.
Well, depends on whether you can get a good deal. I once found one on eBay for $50 in decent condition
That’s a good deal. But I haven’t seen one below 100 for at least a year.
- converting kit to make it usable.
Yeah, Akko makes a decent product. I’ve been completely surprised by their offering. Plus the cases they send their keycap sets in :chefskiss:
I’ve followed that sub for a while and found it interesting because it’s a lot more about modding cheap keyboards to achieve the sound/feel you get with a much more expensive keyboard.
There’s a few on the sub that like to gatekeep based on some arbitrary number for what they consider a budget keeb, which is strange coming from r/mk where the gatekeeping is much more about clone keycaps or budget boards.
Jep. Been there for a while now. Nice people and all and sometimes a DIY or budget mod gem pops up. But most stuff is repetitive. It looks often like a “I cant take photos for good, plz. don’t hate me” version of r/mk.
Interesting, I thought r/mk was lately just a bunch of budget keyboards with clones, where if you post a pic of a GMK set they instantly say “clones are better”. I personally find most of these subreddits (not just about keyboards) hiveminds, so I rarely even visit the sub. A few years ago it was interesting, with nice keyboards and cool finds, nowadays it’s just the same cheap boards and keycap set/artisan advertisements.
Hello! I am the Lead Designer / Account Manager for IFK. We used to be a sister company of TKC, but we have branched off to do our own thing since Jan of this year.
Welcome! Good to have you here. Huge fan.
Oh that makes sense. It felt there was some affiliation since they stock so many of your sets. Anything cool going on in the IFK lab you could share?
