I stumbled upon Keybored’s videos on Youtube. He does some really interesting sound analysis in these to videos:

Honestly, I think he should pull out this info into its own vid. Really interesting stuff.

Yep, they are really good and animated me to try different materials for sound modification. But could not try out since I’m still at the beginning of this journey.

Agreed, the material science in his videos is an interesting dive into how different mods and parts affect sound. His analysis of the tape mod was really helpful in understanding why foam inserts are not necessarily the best way to make your board sound better (and actually convinced me to try masking tape - who would’ve thought a $3 roll of painters tape would be better than $30 of custom cut foam?)

I learned that machines can smell like the enviroment that theyre used in. The team im on are working on the pos systems from arbys and they just reek of frying oil

Do they at least get to find random surprise curly fries? :joy:

No but theres a chance with the redlobster ones to have bugs in them

Oh god. shudder

Yea, I watched my manager the otherday throw out the stand with a good powersupply in it because of that

I find this interesting because the POM plate in my Hidari paired with U4Ts and GMK noire is giving me the greatest higher pitched clack sound of any board and material I have combined. I totally wasn’t expecting this as I had heard POM was lower pitched.

Wait, really? That’s highly unexpected.

  • POM = lower pitched
  • U4Ts = lower pitched
  • Gasket mount = lower pitched

That shouldn’t be a high-pitched clacky combination

I’m away from keyboard but will try record it when I get home. I like the combo so much I am ready to try my first solder build.

In typing it out it’s obvious but it seemed less so at the time. I finally had a chance to A-B compare a 2-channel flex cut PCB vs. a 4-channel flex cut version and I’m really surprised at the difference that it makes. Using MX Blacks as my baseline, the 4-channel version makes them much quieter and more restrained sounding, whereas the 2-channel version produces more of the tone that I know and love about them. I’m glad that I experimented with the 4-channel PCBs but for what I’m after, the 2-channels help to produce a sound that’s more in line with what I’m looking for.

TIL never to trust product descriptions when buying from FB Marketplace. I bought what was supposedly an ANSI Cherry 1800 board (for the caps) and got an ISO-FR fullsize unit instead. It was listed as ā€œCherry US Layout G80-1800 MX Keyboardā€ and I got sent a G81-3000SAF.

Anyone want a vintage fullsize AZERTY keyboard?

Shure, if the price is right

I can be interested, can you post pics ?

Damn I did not expect someone would actually be interested. It was more or less a joke, ISO is kinda growing on me so I’ll probably keep them lol
