Why not just baglube the stems if this is enough for you.
I mostly use tactiles, and I donât want lube on the legs. I have been meaning to try bag lubing. It seems like it is more efficient but still a mess in other ways.
Sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks. Today has been the worst so hopefully tomorrow is better
That really sucks man. Hope it doesnât last long. Do you have a wedge pillow or something similar to keep you comfortably propped up during the night (like you said, absolutely the worst part of the day when sick)? Iâve been able to juke and roll my way out of getting it this far, so my probability for contraction is though the roof.
Obligatory ânot a doctor,â but if you have any complicating health factors at all (age, weight, blood pressure, diabetes, etc) talk to your doctor/urgent care about getting a Paxlovid prescription. It is extremely effective at preventing complications in higher-risk patients and preventing long-term covid problems. Fingers crossed that youâre able to get some decent sleep tonight
Okok
But if u want medium tactile, lub legs on heavy tactile
TIL verified some useful tricks with masking tape:
- placing masking tape over screw-holes does noticeably improve sound of two-part aluminum cases.
- placing poly-fil on case interior sized patch, made out of masking tape strips, makes them more manageable as well as more consistent sound.
UPDATE: Above mods improved the sound of LM60 immensely but I started noticing minor metallic ringing sound when keys along the sides were pressed hard. Their sound was also inconsistent with left-shift key sounding louder than Caps-Lock or Tab. Also placing masking tapes over the side edges remove the ringing.
I learned that shipping to Canada is a pain in the ass. Shipped a PCB and Plate, and was hit with 40 bucks in import fees. The buyer seems reluctant to pay and itâs hard to retrieve the package now⊠hopefully things work out.
Does anybody know if the buyer will have fees on their end too?
IMO those fees are always the buyerâs responsibility and they shouldâve expected as much. What carrier did you use? UPS seems to be the worst about this. Theyâre often the cheapest up front but then have import and brokerage fees. I donât know if itâs a thing with USPS or Canada Post - I havenât run into it.
Yeah, I used UPS. Buyer did say heâd clear it up when it arrives. Hopefully it works, but man, Iâm never going to send anything internationally again.
I have masking tape on parts of the edge on my PSD60 gasket case, the tape is a bit too thick so separating the top and bottom takes over a minute
I should try with only having it at the screwholes
International packages should have the return included in the price for the package when it fails to deliver, but I could be wrong
Oof that the buyer didnât want to go through with it
Josh, use pirateship from now on, for local and international.
Whatâs done is done, but typically you should not be paying import fees as the sender. At the very least, do price + shipping from now on for international.
Instead of swearing off international sales, better to take this as a learning experience and figure out the rules of the game We have it easy in the U.S. There are countries where customs is a source of constant anxiety.
Oh yeah, I do use Pirate Ship. Honestly, this one was merely more annoying to deal with than the rest; swearing off shipping internationally probably wasnât the best decision.
I guess folks in the US do have it easier in terms of shipping. The buyer also agreed to pay import fees after a bit of back and forth, so itâs all good now.
It is always the buyer responsibility to pay import fees. But we indeed have an issue with the carriers in Canada and UPS is basically the worst of them, there are basically operating a big scam and a lot of Canadians are not aware of it until they encountered it.
In short, we have to pay a certain amount of duty and taxes on basically all imported goods valued over 20CAD and thatâs good, it goes to the gvt and is collected by the border services.
Now thatâs not the only additional cost, carriers have a service fee usually called brokerage fee for having declared and payed the duties on your behalf at the border. However thatâs where the big scam lies, the carriers, notably FedeX and UPS abuse this fee. For example with USPS and DHL the brokerage fee is a flat 10 and 20CAD respectively iirc, so that means that if you import a good valued at 25CAD, the import fee will be ~15% something in taxes + a flat 10 or 20 bucks for brokerage. As you can see itâs not great for lower valued product but fine otherwise.
The big issue with Fedex and UPS is that this brokerage fee is not flat but a % on the value of the product and for UPS it can be as high as 40% or +50% so it becomes ridiculous. The worst is that thereâs almost nothing we can do about it, the only way is to refuse at delivery and request the necessary papers to UPS so you can declare and pay to the border services yourself, but UPS makes it hard to get the documents and there are not many offices where you can declare yourself so it is usually far away.
For example in 2019 I bought in the first round of Brutal60 it 180USD, I payed 150CAD in import fees from UPS, the brokerage fee was 110CAD. Itâs absurd if you consider that I already paid 40USD for shipping.
So I can imagine that your buyer was not aware of that and was probably surprised how much he had to pay in import fees for only a plate and a pcb but again thatâs his responsibility to know that he might have additional costs other than duties and taxes.
I learned itâs not a great idea to:
- Spring swap one switch
- Put the switch back in the keyboard under a rarely used modifier with the rest of the standard spring switches to test it out
- Decide the weight isnât different enough to warrant changing all the switches
- Leave the spring-swapped switch in the board for a year
- Forget which switch you swapped.
I now have one Boba U4T with a 72g spring in a pile of standard 68g Boba U4Ts and it will stay that way until the end of time.
Pick them up, one in each hand, and slowly press them stem to stem. If they fight the battle equally (go down and bottom out at the same rate) put them back in a discard pile. Youâll only have to repeat the process about 40 times max to find your heavyweight spring champion. I bet youâll find it close to round 23.
Have possibly done this several times.
Iâve actually done this same method with these silent kailh mouse switches that have a crazy high unit variance (70±15g actuation force) in order to find a pair of roughly-matching light ones. Doesnât work as well with microswitches compared to keyboard switches but you can certainly tell if a pair is wildly different from each other.
Meh. âThere is no difference if you cannot find it, Grasshopperâ.
