Hmmm. C64 keycaps in particular seem like they might be amenable. Something almost like a cruciform shim to put around the switch stem, maybe, but I am not at all sure if the cap’s stem housing would then interfere, the same way MX caps do when flush-adapted to Alps.
If anything, with the sheer number of C64s out in the world, maybe it would be possible – and wouldn’t be too sacrilegious, LOL – to do a semi-destructive conversion by grinding down a mm of material in the C64 caps, as that seems to be about the amount that the existing adapter designs can’t accommodate.
The most comprehensive project seems to have been the Breadbox64 “MechBoard64”. They had to make some interesting choices, but admittedly that was mostly around larger caps.
Unfortunately MT3 Retro was canceled and never produced. SA Retro is out there, but the alphas are currently sold out on SPKeyboards. They might make more eventually, since most of the other kits are still in stock.
No problem! It’s very confusing; they did the same with some other canceled sets like MT3 Garnet, and there’s no way to really tell if they really did run or not.
I’m not too much into the hobby these days (hence the list of things I’m trying to part with), but I’m always on the hunt for new stabs to try out in future rebuilds and such. Saw Omni restocked Knight Stabs that I’ve heard so much good about that I decided to snag a couple along with a lube pen to just keep on hand for the future.
Both great pick ups! Knight stabs & TypePlus have been my gotos recently, even over TX stabs which I really like. The lube pens are big time savers too.
Finally did it. I ordered a 5lb grab bag from Signature Plastics. It feels more like a rite of passage or a toll than a prudent purchase, but I’m also not above a little “SA Unicorn Vomit” base kit.
