What did you order or think about ordering?

As always, I can make a fairly educated guess about your orders last month. At least if a sample of about one million switches sold counts. Data provided by 16 vendors:

Do you have the data available in CSV or something like that? I was thinking it might be interesting to see if I can group types together and look for trends across all vendors.

Figured I better grab the accent & spacebar kits for DCX HF since they are on sale. Plus who knows if they’ll restock when they run out. Been meaning to grab these for quite some time as HF doesn’t feel complete without the purple keys. Although I very rarely use my DCX sets anymore so I couldn’t justify paying full price for these. :money_mouth_face:

Sorry, I’m not allowed to share numbers. That would be the end of vendors providing data. But if you have a specific question, I can look into it.

i saw some cheap ceramic set for 40 bucks and almost went for it. i want a yellow dolphin

Ordered this yesterday. It’s too expensive for what it is but I’m a sucker for old boards.

Yeah a bit expensive if you were buying it on like fleabay or something, but given they’re including a RJ11 to USB-C adapter & somehow have it working with VIA are a huge value add IMHO. Pretty tempting for me as I’m a sucker for OG boards also, especially if you can get them useable with a modern system. Let us know how it is when you get it!

Ordered more switches I don’t have boards for, but wanted to stock up on anyway.

  • 80 boba u4 silent
  • 100 new nixie
  • 100 mx2a black
  • 100 mx2a orange

Had to stop myself from also stocking up on 100 kailh choc purpz. Think I may be coming out of my silents phase because I miss mx blacks and have been dailying MX oranges.

The meme is true for me. It always does come back to MX blacks.

Sneakbox order on it’s way: DCS minibars (Vert, SMRT), BAEs (Vert, SMRT, RFJ), 6us (Vert), Weirdkeys! Not sure what I’ll use a 15u on, but I’m here for it

A little bargain hunting (and pandemic flashbacks for some of y’all) on Amazon today. GMMK Pro barebones (which I will flash to QMK ASAP) and an extra top cover for ~$50. I suppose it’s possible “frame-only” will mean no PCB, but that seems unlikely and that’s what Uncle Jeff’s return policy is for. From what little I can tell, I think this i probably a pretty fair-to-decent price for one of these nowadays, as that’s roughly equivalent to the CNC 75% pre-builts that will occasionally dip down into the same price range, but for me those are effectively bare-bones as well because neither the switches nor the caps are to my preference. I think I’ll use this as a test-bed to try out the MT3 caps I have lying around.

EDIT: I guess the extra top-frame was a little too good to be true, LOL. Order canceled this morning as “out of stock,” but the Pro itself arrived fine (best I can tell), other than a beat-to-hell outer box, which was to be expected. The white top frame was honestly more of a double-impulse buy, fueled by my hobby-blinded understanding that a large amount of CNC’d aluminum in any shape or color whatsoever could never, ever be worth less than twenty-bucks. My other “aluminum rectangles” are silver (Tofu) and purple (Epomaker Tide 65), and I kinda wanted a black aluminum rectangle. I also finally accepted that a garage computer with a spicy pillow so bad it literally pushed the screen away from the case is a bad idea, so I grabbed a cheap Cherry G80-11900 on eBay (USB and $18 shipped) to go with a different old laptop that’s not going to set my house on fire.

Decided to treat myself to some new & interesting switches. The Keygeek Little Elf have their new 7 sphere tipped stems & is made from UPE, PA6, & PA12 so they should be very nice & bassy sounding. Then these Kailh Calligraphy switches look really wild! Made from materials I have never heard of being used in a switch before (Stem material: MF Melamine formaldehyde, Top Housing: LCP Liquid Crystal Polymer (didn’t specific which one), Bottom Housing: LCP Liquid Crystal Polymer (didn’t specific which one)). Unikeys is claiming they are on the fuller clack side of the sound spectrum, I really don’t know what to expect with these materials though. Will definitely report back when I get them in!

Those Little Elf switches sound interesting. The deep sounding Keygeek switches I have tried so far have been nice. I have a hard time remembering how the different types of Nylon (PA6, PA66, PA12) affect sound.

Have a few 3d prints on order.

Thing one is an MJF PA12 prototype unibody top case for the custom MX boards I’ve been using that are based on the Geist Klor:

Thing 2 is an SLS PA2200 vapor smoothed and modified take on the Geist Totem with some of my preferences baked in:

  • Increased the logo size on the top case by 30%
  • Deleted the power switch cutout because I don’t use internal batteries
  • Increased the size of the reset button cutout to make it a little more forgiving. 1mm taller and 0.5mm wider
  • Increased the height of the bottom of these cases by 2mm so that it could be closed off instead of open for the hot swap sockets.
  • Dropped the top cases lip by 2mm so that it still covers the bottom plate.
  • Removed the cutouts for the feet because I prefer to use longer feet instead of the typical round ones to really prevent sliding when not mounted on MagSafe stands.

I believe the lower the number the softer type of Nylon it is, although don’t quote me there. I get a little confused with how many different blends of nylon there are out there too. Just basing my statement off how Unikeys described the switch & IME they’re usually on point with their descriptions.

I’ve honestly always regretted selling my Rama Kara off, especially after everything went down. Happened across a r/mm listing that had a new in box NOCT colorway (different colorway than I had originally, but that’s fine), so I jumped on it and bought it.

I saw that one. Nice grab
