What keyboard trap do you fall into over and over again?

This was 100% true for me until I actually found some I like just a few months ago; pretty much three all at once, and any one will do:

  • Wuque Stupid / Maiz
  • SwagKeys Knight
  • Designer Studio Adaptive

I’ve heard of other new / good stabs - but as long as I can find any of these, I’m good to go.

I was just about to make a post (or find a place to post) a question regarding the best stabs these days. Are there any specific stabs that would be better for a Bakeneko / Unikorn style build? I remember in the old days they’d recommend clips in but I think that was remedied by flipping the stab so the screw side could be away from the perimeter of the board? Any new meta I’m missing? I haven’t really built a o-ring gummy board in a while and planning to make one in the next few months.

The Stupid / Maiz stabs are clip-in, the other two use screws.

My only complaint about Knight stabs is I can never find them in stock. Still haven’t been able to try them yet, though the TX AP v4 stabs are generally pretty solid.

Any recommendations on vendors that are able to keep Knight stabs in stock?

I think the clear solution here is to buy a Seneca, harvest the stabs, and discard the rest. :joy:

Honestly I just snipe the restocks - some vendors let you sign up to get an email when they restock, and that’s when I grab 'em. I know I got some from DiviniKey a while back - it’s true they never stay in stock for long.

Getting sucked into cool keycaps, but then rediscovering that I’m almost always happier with PBT blanks….

Here is one I forgot about - ordering something from China expecting it to be exactly what I ordered

Ordered a Manta40 two years ago - finally shipped and received - and does not have hotswap, or RGB despite them both being photoed and listed on the product description - and to boot the firmware configurator is only in Chinese!

Womp womp.

See the product image below from the zFrontier website showing the beautiful low profile hot swap sockets. Oh this hobby…

Getting involved in group buys. :confounded:

Does this count as a trap? I can touch typing, but every time I put the keycaps on, I don’t remember where they should be.

Oh absolutely! Even as often as I’ve swapped keycaps I’ll transpose letters or more often symbols, or even accidentally flip the cap upside down (if the profile allows for that)

The worst is when you find this on a keeb MONTHS later and realize it’s been that way the whole time and was never noticed.

I’ve been touch typing for 30 years and still have to pull up photo of ANSI to get the punctuation placement correct.

I once reversed a couple of keycaps and for 30 minutes was convinced that my PCB was blown.

Look at my most recent vanity shot with GMK MDR. I just noticed that I flipped the SYS key (moar like SUS amirite)

Anyone who says they know for sure their SA H keycap is properly oriented is a liar.

That’s the beauty of the SA R3 H key though, there is no right way up or down!

Just compromise and orient like 工
