Solenoid spotted, LETS GO!

After the DR-70f issue, I needed a win. So I worked on M0lly last night.

The keys are knock-off GMK Evil Dolch and I wanted these specifically for the dual-legend numpad. I have pre-ordered the real GMK set, mostly to make myself feel better about paying for fakes but also because I love the colorway and I want some shine through indicators. 3mm red LEDs used in the indicator ports. Also wired LEDs in at Caplock and Numlock in hopes of getting those programmed as indicators in the future.

Summary

All the hardware has been swapped out with red anodized aluminum versions.

Silly things that can’t be seen but I know are there, like the red hardware inside the case and the dyed PCB “cotton” (which I can tell you for sure IS NOT cotton because it would not hold dye)

Silly because it does not matter to anyone except me.

Switches are Akko Dracula, spring swapped to 65g.

Typing feels great, the switches have a good solid sound somewhere between clack and thunk. No echo or ping in the case so far. Overall, I’m liking it but we’ll see if it stands up to daily driving.

I just held it in place against an aluminum bottom plate, and even though this is a little baby solenoid that runs fine off the 3.3v rail on the Pi Pico… oh yeah.

I made three hand-wire TKL-likes with aluminum plates, two of them with tactiles. The first tactile build is fine, just not different enough or fun enough to use much, but a proper case with room for a solenoid sounds like just what it needs. It might also be a nice excuse to finally put my SA Mitospeed on something.

The commitment to the theme is impressive :heart::black_heart:

Mill-maxing my Pneuma. Companion by my side as always.

And ready to take my seat at any moment, of course.

Looks great bud! Awesome to see it all built up! Also just so you know for future reference. The PCB works fine with the square unified USB-C daughter boards.

Nothing like a long day of building to have this at the end of the road

Sorry man, that is horrifying. Have you used the set before? If not, did you buy it recently?

First time mounting. Got them just a week ago so I’ve reached out to Omnitype. Hopefully they can supply an extra Y

I guess I can always use them with weird key there. Or use the modifiers as a mix set. The purple is quite nice

Fingers crossed they can. It is a really nice shade of purple.

After two emails and a video of the issues, DR is sending a new PCB out to (hopefully) address these problems. However, I was informed it would take 2 weeks to receive :unamused:

Interesting. I wonder if I need to get mine out and mess around to see if they stop working

For a brief moment I was confused.

Finishing touches on my Kastenwagen Helios Port, all LEDs working just fine. I had some issues in de-soldering hence the bodgewire, AliExpress only sent me red and yellow LEDs, no green ones so I ordered them locally (for 10x the piece) on eBay.

Now that I know everything’s working, I can clean up everything and push a fork of this to GitHub (it’s also a ISO port by NoPun for anyone interested)

Built up my Brutal 1800 V2 tonight, super happy with how it turned out! I ended up using the POM half plate, TX AP clip in stabs, Gateron Sea Salt Smoothies, none of the foams, & the poron gaskets. Overall it makes for a very nice typing feel, not too soft & not to stiff, it’s just right for my tastes! The sound is really good to which I was a little worried about going with long pole switches in a bigger case & not knowing how well the Zinc weights affected sound. Seems like the zinc weights temper the sound about as well as brass or copper & the tight internals keep it from being hollow sounding. Now finally getting to use this a little bit I almost feel like I ripped Ck off geting it for $125!

Seriously though these Brutal V2 boards Ai03 designed are a massive upgrade from the V1s & well worth their regular price. I would easily recommend the V2 1800 or 65% to anyone who was interested in either. Hopefully they upgrade the rest of the series & stick to the design cues from Ai03. A V2 Devastating TKL or Malicious Ergo made in this same style would be killer boards IMO!

On paper, the sea salt smoothie has a slightly heavier spring and a smidge more travel distance. Is that what they feel like in reality? Love the dark green case.

Honestly pretty much the same as regular smoothies. Neither change moves the needle enough to be really noticeable IMO. However if you prefer the slightly heavier weighting &/or longer travel I would say grab the Sea Salts over the regular Smoothies. The quality of them is just as good as the early batch regular Smoothies I got. Also thanks! I’m really happy with the board overall but the color in particular I think is super nice.

Was about to ask how you have it built after seeing it on their Discord! Have to get around to using the FR4 half plate I picked up for a secondary build of my v2 65 (currently Haimu Skies in alu full). It’s been a mainstay for me.
