What's on your workbench today?

Not just yet, but this weekend I will finally be doing the plateless build for my F1! I got all the parts, switches are already tuned, just gotta lube up a set of stabs & solder in the switches. I wanted to do it tonight, but work the past couple months has thoroughly kicked my ass (aka I’m getting old & the physical work is starting to catch up to me… ). My rotator cuff on my right shoulder is just about shot, I’ve had pretty nasty carpal tunnel on both hands/wrists for the longest time, now for some reason pain is shooting up from my thumb on my left hand probably some type of RSI. Getting old sucks guys LOL! Will for sure post up some pics of the build process once I get to it though!

How old are you Rob if I may ask?

I’m 44, I was half joking in that last post. Although I have been doing carpentry/painting/manual labor since I got out of HS & it is definitely starting wear on me way more than it did in previous years. Thankfully whatever was up with my thumb on my left hand has calmed down. So I’ll be able to mess with my build today!

Age check in: I just turned 43 last Sunday and your statement certainly resonates.

46 here, and as mentioned earlier, I threw my back out working on a damn keyboard.

40 with two major spinal surgeries complete with nerve damage in both my hands. Nothing is as easy as it used to be, including typing and especially working with tiny parts - but I still love it! I’ll admit I’m glad that it’s easy to get decent pre-lubed switches these days >.>

The are dozens of us, DOZENS I tell you! Seriously though I think KT has become the place to be for us older hobbyists. Would definitely explain why I feel more comfortable here than any other place discussing our hobby!

Seriously, I was thinking a lot of you guys were older. :joy: Over a month, I will be 52. I have been battling an extremely rare genetic disease my whole life; only 22 cases described worldwide in medical literature. I only got diagnosed very recently after putting a lot of effort into that myself. Physicians are baffled and I am still waiting for proper treatment. Perhaps I will receive something next month. I have a specialist visit coming up. In the mean time, I am getting by with herbal therapies.

My condition is episodic and reigned by the weather. So I often start a project, get ill and have to lay down with sores for days, weeks or months on end, waiting for it to heal. You guys are great company during such episodes!

After each episode, I somehow need to find the courage to pick matters up again and get back into shape. It’s tough: physically, mentally, socially and career wise.

If I walk down the street, you would hardly notice anything apart from the scars. A couple of people even asked if I am a military dude who got it into a fight.

So yes, I still have a several keyboard builds on the back burner, which I hope to finish and post here after the summer.

And sorry for the rant! :speak_no_evil:

Started wearing glasses 5 years ago, other than that nothing to déplore. I guess I have been lucky given the stories I just read…

Talking about (bad) luck. I was indeed born on a Friday the 13th under a rising full moon :full_moon:. :joy: They were talking about that last night on Coast to Coast AM. So, I called in to share my story. :hear_no_evil:

The most important thing when faced with difficulties in life is to keep the humour up! I do.

I like it here because I get to feel like the baby again. 32, but my younger family members have enjoyed reminding me that I’m “old” now.

Same - except that I wake up feeling old. It was like once I hit 30 back in '23, everything just started hurting in the mornings for no reason.

I’m 35 but really need to get some more stretching into my life. Also have 2 plates and like 14 screws in my ankle (I don’t even remember how many screws anymore) I’m kind of just used to the perpetual body pain and discomfort now…
Doesn’t sound like it gets any better though lol

Started feeling that and then this year started getting seriously back into weight training (was a certified personal trainer at one point in my life…) because I was scared of potential long term consequences of neglecting my health.

I can safely say I feel better now than I did most of my 20’s

Got my F1 built with the plateless setup finally! Definitely digging it, but a little surprised by how little change there was compared to the alum. plate setup I was running before. The flexiness/softness of the board has zero change compared to using a alum. plate (a 1.2mm PCB may have better results if you’re looking for a softer feel with the F1 v2). The sound got a little deeper & the case sounds a little more open, but not to the point where you would immediately recognize it’s a plateless build. I went with the recommend 6 tabs (3 on top, 3 on the bottom of the PCB). I’m thinking it could get a little softer in feel by using less, but I also think that could negatively affect the sound. Overall I am super happy with where the board is at so I’m gonna keep it this way for now. I will eventually play around with the number of clips to see how that affects the typing experience.
