I can’t express how much I actually like this…
Now, I want to explore peripheral-mounted furniture.
A few years ago I got pretty far into mounting a Keeb.io Sinc in a desk similar to this, I even have a piece of nice plywood with the cutouts drawn on it out in the garage somewhere. What I kept bumping into was wanting the desk to be multi-modal so I could also use it to write, draw, etc and the board would be in the way. One of the things I came up with was having a removable front to the desk so I could pull out the keyboard and put a flat surface in its place but then you are dealing with having to put the board (and the blank insert) somewhere while it’s not in use.
Anyways, I love the idea of putting a split board in a desk and look forward to seeing more of these.
Be aware, that Meridian carrying case is huge. I actually bought one last year to house a big TKL that couldn’t fit in anything else out there (had to remove some of the inner foam).
Thanks for the heads up! That’s kinda wild since the Meridian is a fairly small board, but knowing that I might order a couple as I still have a few boards that I do not have a hard case for.
Sorry to run down this rabbit hole, but I just remembered I picked up some reasonably priced large cases from ParamountKeebs earlier this year for two Matrix boards (one is a TKL). I think they are the same exact case as the CannonKeys large case except for the id badge on the front, and they are $13 cheaper.
I am really tempted, but I have DSA Dolch and SA Oblivion (Hagoromo alphas) just hanging around in boxes right now. The Oblivion in particular is super close in color.
Though that does remind me, if anybody has any DSA Dolch 1.75u shifts, I’d love to work something out. SP is out of them, and it kills so many modern boards’ layouts, particularly the ones I have.
Alright! Another option for switch and stabilizer spacing / shimming alongside UPKB’s plastic spacers and OLKB’s (unobtanium) metal shims - this time in foam.
I like that the product name for this one acknowledges what I actually use them for most: stabilizers. These days when “long pole” or otherwise sub-4mm travel switches are basically the norm, I feel spacers like these are an absolute must-have for any keyboard tuner’s kit.
Can you explain a bit about how you use these for stabilizers matched up with long pole switches? I have seen this referenced but not quite sure where the interference is, etc that cause the incompatibility?
I think the general idea is that if you use a switch with a long pole, it reduces the amount it can travel downward. So you end up with stabilizer stems on either side that still have some room to go down, making it possible for the space bar to rock a bit on the sides. If you add these to the top of the stabilizer stems, all 3 stems move the same amount and bottom out together.
@pixelpusher has it; for stabs, the spacers prevent potential teetering.
For switches, these can overcome the old Cherry profile middle row x North-facing interference issue, where the underside of those and some other caps can strike the switch housing, causing an off sound or weird feel.
Well this kinda sucks - USA Tariffs and the end of the De-Minimus exemption – Lowprokb.ca
Excerpt:
Canada, where LowproKB Ltd. operates from, has not changed it tariff strategy with China recently, so importing products from China does not currently cost LowproKB any more than it usually has in the recent past. Where the change is occurring is the rate at which the US is charging to import Chinese goods.
At this time (Aug 7), it appears the general Chinese tariff rate is around 55%. This is a percentage of the order value… so if you ordered $100usd of product, you would be charged around $55usd by customs before you can receive your order.
Anybody in the low profile space knows that Lowprokb is one of the BEST vendors out there. Really hate that this will likely hurt Darryl’s business.
F’n expired orange man is gonna bleed us dry the next few years. I really hate how the tarrifs are gonna hurt small businesses too. Although if we’re being honest I think that is part of their plan here to kill off small businesses as much as possible. Definitely some funny stuff going on behind the scenes of this tariff BS IMHO.
It’s gonna be a loooooooooooooooooong 3.5 years
Aren’t all PCBs made in China?
Can’t speak for commercial projects, but at a hobbyist level, there are some PCB fab options that are US based. You just pay. So. Much. More.
Even with the tariffs, JLCPCB tends to be a cheaper option than US based alternatives. I just end up having to spend more $.
Even if it’s made/assembled in the US, the source of materials for the components they need are sourced outside of the country (mostly China). I don’t think the majority of customers are that interested in paying more even if its local, unless maybe if the customer service is better.
Also, a heads-up if you’re ordering ANYthing from outside the US. I just got a $40 bill from DHL for my Geonworks purchase a few months ago. The vendors just list the total price of the item and say it contains something from China (in this case, not the keyboard case or plate, but the PCB). Seems the best solution is to not include a PCB with any non-Chinese board purchase and try to buy a PCB already imported.
Crazy how I’ve never paid and import fee in my life, but since some dudes in Washington like to fuck kids and hate on brown people, it’s the new norm
It’s bad for diplomacy, bad for business, and bad for the consumer. Yet here we are somehow.
At least all the import duties will help pay for important things like military parades and gold-plated ballrooms.
FFS.
Drop is having a BOGO sale on MT3 right now. Seems like a lot of the sets are discounted (under $100) so you could pick up two sets of MT3 for $50/each.
