Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

yep, someone post the recipe. that looks fantastic

Who knew Brother’s 1980s word processors had TKL layouts. And wide-boi CRTs. I wonder what kind of key switches? he doesn’t say in this video Dissecting two Word Processors, Brother WP25 and Panasonic W1525 - YouTube

not sure about that exact WP but other Brother models are proto-topre switches. i’ve purchased some modules from ebay for my keebs:

the modifiers don’t always work out and dremeling is required.

Hello, just wanted to follow up that they are not the same. The shape of the key and the mold marks are not the same as seen in the photos.
Please avoid speculation/misinformation spreading before having a chance to verify.

No offense, but I’ll speculate as much as I like, and as I did above, will always note it as such. Since it says in bold, “Speculation:” - I am very comfortable in it not being misinformation.

I actually addressed this particular topic some time ago in another thread; I’ll update the post here with the same information:

*Edited to have originally intended link, which was nested in the previous one

So HIBI posted two sound tests for their new “HIBIKI” 65% keyboard on YouTube:

Specs are interesting (note the PCB):

  • Aluminium Top
  • Polycarbonate Base
  • Polycarbonate Leaf Spring Plate w/ Poron Gaskets
  • 4mm Plate Foam
  • Keycaps: GMK Hallyu
  • Switches: Gateron Oil Kings
  • PCB: WilbaTech (colour matched blue)

That polycarb base is really interesting:

More photos from HIBI Instagram:

Colors: VERY HIBI, SNOW BOY, OFFICE BEIGE & CHOC.

Edit: forgot to add that there will be a pre-order in September according to HIBI:

Zfrontier is doing a GB for a Desko Black PBT set, 151 keys for only $40:

Not sure if this is XMI, profile is described as “Cherry-Like” and no mentions of thickness. I have a 5$ voucher at Zfrontier so I might take a chance at these.

Also the name of one of my very favorite whiskys.

Those sure do resemble “KATE” / “CAPS”

Just a render, but I think it would be notable if it shipped with those or had them as an option. There’s been a clone of the profile out for a while now despite the original not being out of development yet; I’d have to chuckle if it came with those. :stuck_out_tongue:

I do like that polycarb base, and I do like polycarb leaf-spring plates. That curvy lens business going on with the bottom looks pretty cool, too. Definitely interested to see how it turns out.

The HIBIKI is pretty interesting. It’s like a more “fun” and less serious take on a Rama design.

Totally agree. Despite all the “hey, you stole my idea” stuff, this is one mighty fine looking board.

That’d be insanely ironic if SHE ended up really popularizing that profile. RAMA or karma, same thing I guess. HIBI and Melgeek really need to collaborate on something, their design languages are so complimentary.

Totally not drooling all over their catalogue.

Especially those show cars.

This reminded me of a thing; I was in Walgreens the other day and see some socks on an end-cap, and the logo on them straight up looks like the F1 logo:

As soon as I saw it I thought, how are they not being sued for this?

Heh… Well. Turns out they are… the ones suing F1.

That aside how about some F1 related artisans? Tire shapes from different eras, pistons, helmets, maybe a checkered flag of some kind…

KeebMonkey has a new funky 1800-ish-with-knob thing. It’s got a gasket-mounted FR4 plate, and has both complete and barebones options. Very beginner-friendly, with the plate having each key slot labeled - that’s kinda neat.

Not really my thing, but I know a few folks who this would be a good keeb for, who have asked me about full-size or near full-size boards with both hot-swap and wireless features.

That is pretty cool. I still have to double-check every single $#@!ing time. It’s Z, X, C, wait … B? Lol.
