Rebuilt my 2nd Kira and it’s off to a friend for it’s second life.

Is the candy bar loud? I built mine and ended up selling it.

Looks great!

No, I lined the case with shelf liner and the CF plate seems to absorb some of the bottom out sound.

Finally got this guy done! I’d put it together last week only to realize the screw-in stabs I had on-hand were really bad. Now it’s got Durock V2’s and sounds great.

This build features MT3 WOB, one of my very favorite keysets. It also features Black Ink U4 frankenswitches and a custom-cut POM plate from 415 keys. Rounding-out the special features of this build is the burger-mount mod, which plays very nicely with the soft plate for a very flexy experience.

I really like the texture on ABS MT3…

If I get as much done as I’m planning on, I’ll be uploading a full build log and sound test of this keyboard along with a few other things on my new website. I’ll keep you guys posted!

awesome build, love me some flexy POM, shame they only had white, a black plate would have really completed the blackout vibes, but the white still compliments the legends nicely.

What type of screw in stabs did you have yeet from the build? The only ones that gave me any trouble recently are retooled GMK/Cherry screw ins & V1 C3 stabs with certain PBT sets.

Thanks! I considered applying a layer of matte black vinyl to the top surface, but there was an emerging theme of carbon-black and white with the switches and keys, so I decided to save myself a couple hours.

@Rob27shred As for those stabs - I have no idea what brand they were. I bought them a couple years ago, and I don’t remember where from or what the description was beyond “screw-in”.

They are opaque black shiny plastic with gold colored wires and have brass thread inserts like Durocks do, but there’s way too much room for the inserts to play around in the housings - so even if you manage to get them sounding acceptable (I didn’t), there’s a crazy amount of twist with each of the wide keys. Super loosey-goosey.

Another positive of switching to the Durocks - they match the Ink Black housings. :+1:

My project is to give the whiteout look to my acrylic Preonic. The case is white. The case and plate foam is white. Just got the white POM plate to complete the effect. I should get some snow whites or something for switches.

I’m curious, why ?

Why not? Its fun, its relatively challenging, its uncommon…

Tried the Pewters out stock in my HS board & have really been liking the. So I decided it was time to properly lube them up (3204 on housings + stems, 105 on springs, Durock clear films). The stems needed wiped off thanks to the excessive factory lube job, but thankfully 3204 plays nice with Durock/JWK’s factory oil. So no need to ultrasonic clean them! Will report back on how they are once I get them finished up & back in my tester board!

Edit: So I finally finished up lubing these Pewters today & am using them right now. Filmed & lubed they feel really good IMO, sound much better also (a lot quieter). Still have to type on them for a few days to get my true impressions of them, but so far so good! I forgot how nice a lightly tactile can be!

I have some of these on the way as well. I am excited to try them. Was thinking about 203 lube and on the legs. :+1:

203 should work pretty well! I am lubing the legs & leaves on these ones. It takes a small bite out of the tactility, but worth it for the trade off of extra smoothness IMO. Also they have an ergo clear like bump, so lubing the legs & leaves brings them more in line with the enhanced brown they aim to be.

Alright! I think I’ve been coding and writing for something like sixteen hours now… I’m self-taught and basically have no idea what I’m doing, but I know just enough to (hopefully) make it not broken; my new website is live at:

switchbox.studio

There's only one article and some photos up at the moment, but now that I have the basic structure up I can focus on making more content! I'd love to know what you folks think. The site is basically in its infancy right now and lots of polishing is imminent, but I'll always value feedback.
