My Thermal. I thought about flipping it before I received it because I am no longer into 60% boards but I am very glad I didn’t. Love the design and the plate flex.
Thermal is always one of those boards you can see and identify from a distance! That looks lovely!
Gorgeous photo. What keycaps are those? At first I thought those were GMK Dark but I don’t recall sub legends being offered.
Thanks, @macclack. This keyboard hobby has made me revive my photography hobby
The keycaps are a pbt set from KBDFans without a particular name as far as I’m aware (they’re not from epbt). But they are pretty thick, will stay matt (which makes them more stealthy I think) and, as you noted, are available with hangul sub legends. I had them before the GMK Dark GB and they are good enough for me.
I just finished my rebuild of my Kbd8x Mk II.
This time I went with Kiwis (lubed and filmed) on what appears to be a pvd coated brass plate. Durock screw-in stabilizers, and I cut my own dampening material out of a sheet of 1/16” felt wool that I picked up from Amazon.
I can happily say that this combination also works to eliminate the hollow sounding it had before. I’m finally happy with my Kbd8x.
Yui40 build complete. Amazing design and build quality from @sircheddar!
I like thick bezels.
Thick bezels are my favorite
40% in a 60% body
Man, that’s a really nice keyboard you have
I effing love Thermal.
I finally put the wool pad and deskeys domes in the norbatouch. I also threw on the KAT blanks I got a while back.
I really appreciated the strips of domes, it made them much easier to install and they all worked on the first try, unlike the BKE redux that took tons of playing with to seat. Seriously, I don’t think I got every key working at once ever with those, and I have hardly used the novatouch in a while because of it. I got the pink ones, and I quite like them, the BKE heavies were too much for me to use for any extended amount of time.
I really appreciate that the KAT keys have the row molded on the inside because the tray was so bad they got all mixed up by the time they got to me.
First impression is definitely positive on both, the weighting seems prefect for me on the domes, and the keycaps have a really nice texture and finger feel. The sound is nice and thocky, although I don’t remember the stabs rattling this bad on this board. I think I “get” KAT now, I had kinda figured since DSA and SA sculpted aren’t my favorite I wouldn’t like it that much, but now I might be interested in picking up another set. My original plan was to dye these blanks, but I quite like the clean white look so I might leave them as is.
Very clean! Dammit. It even matches your lidless coffee cup. ![]()
Those Pink Domes are to die for, aren’t they? Amazing job by Deskeys. I’ll definitely be giving them my business with their future projects.
lidless + no heat protector is the only way. It’s especially easy at home with a mug ![]()
they seem very nice at first impression, but I have been using a stock realforce a lot lately and really enjoying it, it has been so long since I used the stock novatouch domes I kind of want to go back and do a side by side comparison to see how they are.
