Was waiting for these to make an appearance in this thread. The font seems strange to me as well. It just looks⌠goofy
Nah, itâs like the had a slider for boldness and turned it all the way up to dumb
It looks kinda like thoes guacamole âMDAâ caps - even has the triple dot homing nubs.
Zooming in on picture number 3 on the product page (showing the keyboard from an angle with headphones in the near background) it appears the letters are possibly engraved into the keycaps. Maybe tooling/material determined the size of the lettering, Iâm not familiar enough to know. But I do agree that the font looks comically large.
Messing around with some switches from Switch Oddities. First - a lot of these impress me. Second, whatâs that I see in there?
Besides the weirdly out of place spring, that is - this one had a slightly crushed tube, but was part of a 6-pack.
Itâs a weird stem! Actually, I think itâs kind of a brilliant stem.
Itâs exactly what it looks like.
The pliant legs at the stemâs foot and railâs top act as dampeners without needing to involve additional parts or materials.
The bottom bit Iâve seen before in the Candy Jade Green / Lightwave V2, but the smaller one at the top is new to me. Again, itâs exactly what it looks like - a tiny version of the bottom dampening legs carved right into the stem rails.
And they work!
Yep. Definitely into these. What are they, anyway?
Epomaker Silent Iceberg series
Huh. Neat. Definitely a good âhmmmâ this time around. Man - so many of those are good but these are some of the most interesting.
Welp, I suddenly feel the urge to place a second Switch Oddities order.
Neato. Reminds me of the legs that typically get removed from stabs. Seems like a good way to dampen and less likely to feel mushy compared to silicone.
I ordered some! Couldnât decide between the red or silver but I went with silver.
Iâm really failing to see the appeal of metal keycaps, especially at the (understandably) stratospheric pricing. Other than knobs or dials that you touch infrequently, I canât think of any other near-constant touch interfaces that are primarily metal. Even for things like tools or knives, the part you hold is generally plastic or wood or rubber or at least not just pure metal. Am I missing something obvious?
I just love how theyre already marked down by 100 bucks lol
Honestly I donât think so. I can only speak for myself, but if I were to buy these, Iâd be motivated more by the idea of full-metal keycaps than the anticipation of actually using them. I might be wrong, but Iâd imagine they arenât the greatest to type on or listen to - but to the eye, theyâre pretty unmistakably metal. Were they ever in my collection, theyâd be a display piece.
As an aside - the page says theyâre CNCâd but they kinda look cast to me - maybe itâs a bead-blasted finish?
Another knock against actually using them for me is the recessed legends. Iâm sure there are some very good reasons they have for going that route in terms of production, but I do think it would negatively impact the typing experience for me.
The only metal I can imagine wanting to use on keycaps is stainless steel - and even then Iâd probably just save it for a single accent cap, again because the idea of a steel cap is cool in my head, but when I imagine trying to use a whole set I donât see it working that well - and even if it did the cost would be even more prohibitive than these. IDK - maybe it could be done with stamped sheets wrapped over plastic stem assemblies - kind of like industrial kitchen finish but on keycaps.
Available now in small quantities - the DishPit68
This keyset apparently went on sale today:
What is it with weebs and their quest to publicly shame themselves?
i swear its a contest between weebs and furries (source im a furry lol)
As a weeb, at least for keyboards, Weebs definitely way more cringey. Iâve yet to see someone commission a custom fursuit for their keyboard yet lmao
wouldnt that just be getting a case made for it? lmao
Depends. I donât know if youâd consider putting googly eyes on a felt case would count. Maybe if you sewed a tail to it or something lol
Is that one called GMK Happosai?
Itâs MW 2DGF (MilkyWay 2D Girlfriend)
I couldnât agree more. I donât have any keyboards that are mostly just display pieces so I wasnât thinking in that direction, but I guess I could see that being the case with these keycaps. Still that priceâŚ
