Things that make us go... hmmm šŸ¤”

Dorp is taking their own shot at the 75%-with-knob segment. Pretty standard looking layout in the teaser image, and the design itself strikes me as minimal and clean. Sounds like they’re aiming for a more premium feel experience than their current self-branded flagships.

Hey, why not, it’ll probably be pretty good at least. Spitballing: At worst a GMMK Pro alternative, at best a highly competitive and desirable gasket 75. IDK, worst thing I can say about it is that it’s safe - which I’d honestly consider wise, in context. This seems like a great opportunity to level-up their keeb game, and I’m honestly interested to see what they’ve learned since the ALT and SHIFT.

I’d be shocked if it wasn’t a real step up from those - what I’m interested to see is just how much of one it is.

Weird! It is safe, you’re right but it is also still so late. GMMK could easily release a R2 of GMMK Pro or just make a slightly higher tier version. Oops there goes Drop’s lunch.

Keychron and some of those other similar guys are even eating GMMK’s lunch… doesn’t make sense to me.

Are the going to call it the DROP Pro?

I would concur that the field for this kind of board, in the range I’d expect them to aim for, seems really crowded. That said, I do like this layout in general. Having experienced one of their boards first hand, I think they’re capable of making something on the level of the GMMK Pro, but maybe not much better.

I dunno, guess we’ll see.

I’ve touched on this before on the ā€œwhat are you waiting forā€ thread, but yeahhhhhh some GMK sets are really stuck in color matching hell.

GMK Zooted was in color matching for over 2 years. Monokai Material (an Oblotzky set!) is a few months away from that 2 year mark. It’s bad. And the production time after color matching is done is somewhere between 14 months (GMK’s latest official PR estimate) and 24 months (actual time for recent sets).

Does make me wonder how long Mictlan is going to take, with its many legend colors.

Isn’t this set pad printed?
Maybe color matching could be faster if it is the case.

Just the complicated novelties; the letters and such are traditional double shot.

So I was bored and was looking through KeebMonkey’s site and apparently they sell this? IBM Model M Refurbished Keyboard
Although I was talking to a friend last night about it and I kinda doubt its the actual model m?

There have been a few times where I’ve wanted to reference as a meme a specific clip from Trigun, and I thought, surely this clip exists in isolation somewhere because of its memorable ridiculousness.

Not that I could find… :man_shrugging: So, when I stumbled on a longer video that contained it, I did my part for posterity:

Alright… (heheh) alright alright alright alright alright alright!

For context, this guy is in the process of impersonating the protag (who has a reputation) in an attempt to extort the locals. He’s an idiot to comedic effect, but in this moment he’s like let’s goooooo

I might have to make an edit that replaces his guns (and lighters) with keebs and his cigar with a brush or something.

They are rebooting Trigun and it looks terrible.

Haha oh nooo

It’s so rare that reboots aren’t at least a little painful to watch.

I recently found out that the original anime is pretty different from the manga? I remember being interested in the show, but it was pretty difficult to watch around that time. It was on Toonami, but I arrived late. I don’t think it was on DVDs… I picked up the manga cause it was actually pretty short.

I feel like I might have to check out the old show again now.

There are GMK sets on Ebay for $100 or more markup that are in stock from vendors… :man_facepalming:

@Manofinterests maybe it’s time to revisit the numbers to see if it’s viable to invest by purchasing extra GMK sets and reselling.

Return of MAD KEEBS?

Perhaps a historical first - cheap Chinese keyboard that does NOT include a keycap puller!

I’ve been saving mine for a future art installation, or something.

Honestly, good. I realize I say that with a fair amount of (acknowledged) hypocrisy but those ring pullers are wasteful and terrible.

I may have well over 20 of those crappy plastic ring pullers from all the switches I’ve bought and I only keep them around because I don’t want to throw and waste them. I wish they had other use cases.

It’s a good thing I’m seeing less and less of them being included though, so that’s at least a sign of progress!

I haven’t tried this yet, but I had this idea to sell some of my cheaper keycaps on something like OfferUp. My thought is that my Akko kits might not really sell in our community, but maybe some one local would appreciate it. At the very least, I would get something rather than it burning a whole in my cabinet.

If I ever have a humble little keeb shop as an old man, I’ll have a bunch of those on a string along the doorframe instead of a bell.
