seems like great success, good keebscience
The Oblivion grey cadet alphas are just a smidge darker IME, I’ve been using the Oblivion Cadet B to use Space Cadet on my Alice & would agree it’d be a cluster fuck seperating the two sets from one another, LOL!
Got two more packs of 1x7u & 4x2u Durock smokey stabs from AuraMech in today. They been so hit or miss with being instock I’ve been grabbing them whenever I can find them.
Although it’s not like I am really hurting for stabs, starting to look I have a problem hoarding them here TBH! Durock, Everglide, Zeal, C3, Genuine Cherry (plate, PCB, & screw in), generic (screw in & plate), Costar, ALPS, you name it I got at least one set of them almost!

So I pretty much only use cherry. What’s the difference?
Not all that much if Cherry got thier retooled screw ins fixed TBH. I used to swear by them till they retooled & made the tolerances too tight. With Durock, Everglide, & Zeal stabs you get a tiny bit more smoothness & with C3 stabs (V1s, haven’t tried V2s yet) they perform almost identically to Cherry with ABS caps, but bind with even slightly warped PBT caps. The others (Any plate mount Cherry recommended though, Costar, & ALPS stabs) are for specific situations that call for them. All in all if Cherry screw ins have been working just fine for you I can’t give you any big reasons to switch over to another brand. Maybe Durock cause they are smoother & cost about the same.
Interesting. Thanks. I’ve been using clip in/PBC mount
what about wires? Gold or steel and does the gauge or weight matter? Do you ever notice a difference between manufacturers?
as long as the wires aren’t really thin it’s not usually a problem. Some of the knockoff sets have thinner wires. You can make them work but it takes a lot of superlube
The worst is when you get some sort of grind on one side. I have had it in both zeal and cherry stabilizers in the past. I’ve never had a single issue with Durock stabilizers.
Costar are the only ones I’ve ever noticed I’ve had to worry about the wires with. Sometimes they come with wires bent to go around the switch that work only with certain plate cutouts. Then also there is 2 different wire thicknesses with costar stabs with the thicker ones being very problematic unless the plate was designed to use that type of costar stabs. As for Cherry style stabs, I’ve never ran into any issues with the wires, from cheap knock off plate mounts all the way to the high end screw ins with gold wires.
^ This is a very good point, I’ve never personally ran into this problem as I have very rarely bought or used knock off stabs, but now that you mentioned it I do remember hearing this quite a few times.
Yes! I even have one prebuilt where they clearly didn’t consider the stabs until the rest was done; they use a straight / no bend spacebar wire because the bent ones interfere with how they mounted the switch - but the straight one is actually pushing against the switch such that it’s always bowed, rubbing against the housing at all times. Oh, KBParadise…
Only bad experience I’ve had with wires was a few sets with a slightly thinner wire a few years ago that came with cheap boards. Those things rattled and popped out when changing key caps. That was my lesson to only use stabs that I bought and trusted.

Super Green!
