What did you get in the mail today? (Part 1)

Ha. It’s funny cause it’s true.

I absolutely love that top build with the 1.5u right side mods. Would look like a little sibling next to my boardwalk!

Just waiting on the Ghost Norbaforce now to give the Realforce RGB a more suitable home. Should put me over until the grail is released!

Edit: Just wanted to add, the packaging from Ryan here is exceptional. I wish more makers in our community would take the time to get this right.

I can confirm that the FR-301 will change your life LOL.

I got the rest of MT3 today. Gonna build a Prime E with them when my case comes on. I was glad to see it has a 1.25 tab key. Something not found on the PBT version of any of the MT3 sets.

Godspeed MT3 has a R3 1.25u key. It didn’t say tab but could fill in as one

Happy to have for my collection, even if I can’t read this Japanese edition. :jp:

I am newish to 40s, but from what I have seen on the boards I want to build, the key missing from most sets is the R2 1.25 key (tab or otherwise on the legend)

First impressions: smooth af – so smooth you can hear that JWK tactile leaf ping clearly, lol. Granted this is without a keycap, unfilmed, and not compared to anything else directly. After work I can compare them to my Lilacs which were already super smooth.

At first glance, I thought this was a container of chopped romaine.

C3 Kiwis real first impressions with comparisons against Lilacs (65g stock spring, stock lube + lubed spring, filmed) and Zealios V2 (67g stock spring, everything lubed with 3204). Sorry no straight up T1 to test against.

Smoothness:
The smoothest of the bunch, but not by a huge margin over the Lilacs – not worth buying these exclusively for smoothness. That said, all of the minute perceived friction is from the leg/leaf interplay.

Sound:
They basically sound like R2 Tangies with T1 stems, lol. Same higher pitched/water drop (cool) sounding profile but a bit more pronounced due to coming off of the bump with more force.

Tactility/Feel:
The same bump profile as the Lilac (should be the same T1 stem), but surprisingly with more tactility and snap – still not as much as the Zealios however. If I had to guess, this is due to the spring which is a few grams heavier than the Lilac’s, and what I’m suspecting, has a slower force curve like the R2 Tangies seem to have. I haven’t swapped the springs between the Kiwis and Lilacs, so I can’t confirm if there is a leaf design change as well, so this may just be another perfect-storm spring like the Zealios V1 late round 67g spring.

Filming:
The Lilacs are a rattly mess without films, but the tops on the Kiwis are fairly tight They aren’t as tight as the V2 Zealios, but you could probably get away with not filming them if that’s not your jam. They do tighten up a smidgen with films, and they sound a little deeper as well so I’ll be slapping films in mine.

This isn’t an exhaustive review by any means, and is colored by my perceptions, but I hope informative nonetheless. Honestly, I figured that they would have a unique sound and be super smooth which is surely the case, but I wasn’t expecting the increase in tactility over the Lilacs (not by world-ending margins mind you). I don’t know how all of that will translate to typing on a full board of them, and the added tactility may not be preferable in the end as I really enjoy the Lilacs over the V2 Zealios for prolonged use. I’ll probably end up lubing them in a similar fashion as the Lilacs (spring, contact points for the spring on the housing, and the top housing for upstroke suppression) as I don’t think they need anything to aid in smoothness. Now on to those U4 Boba samples that just came in…

You are correct; that was a picture of the salad I had for lunch.

Very interesting in hearing first impressions on the U4 Bobas.

Well, since you asked so nicely, here’s my hot-take. If I was being reductive, they feel like more tactile jailhouse blues. The bump is at the top, round, but not as long as a Zealio/Zilent V2 which makes it feel sharper. The stroke seems super short and the bottom-out soft – softer than Zilent, but not mushy. The promise of the spring and new leaf is realized as there is no ping to be heard of. It has that slightly scratchy sound that all silenced stems suffer from, but feels really smooth unlike a Zilent. I haven’t lubed my samples nor do I have enough to build a whole board, but so far I like them as they are quite unique. I’ll probably be picking up some upon the next restock at 1up. Also, my samples were supposed to be 68g and 62g, but I swear by Odin’s good eye that they were both 68g (an accident I’m sure). I threw an 62g Alpaca spring in one of them to compare (liked the 68g variant better).

That seems to be consistent with other descriptions that I have heard from others that got their hands on samples as well. I really enjoy my Zilents but they do have a long break in period due to the scratchiness that sounds like 2 pieces of paper rubbing each other. I did order a set of the U4 Bobas last night so I’m interested in trying them out.
