It’s “three stage” - or has two tight-coil sections separating three normal sections. Now, I don’t know enough about springs to tell you what that means for the spring - or if it has any effect at all compared to a “regular” longboi spring - but it sure looks neat.
These practically glow - makes me wish I still had a blacklight to see if they respond to it. I think this is one time where I like the production color more than the rendered one:
Thank you! I adjusted my desk lights to 5000K. The photos come out much better (using a Pixel 3a). Looks like my workbench shoplight is in need of a light upgrade.
Yep, I have the same kit, and I love it, but I often have the same issue with not being able to get down into the holes on deep cases. I have a few other sets that I can use for long holes, but the iFixit bits have the best precision of all my kits.
I’ve always liked Wiha tools and recently noticed Adam Savage use them on his Youtube channel. As fate would have it, I recently got one included with my TX66 kit. Really nice tools. I think that would be end-game for precision screwdrivers if I ever had the urge.
Wiha makes super stuff, check out Wera too, I find I like their microdrivers better due to the shape and the more functional spinny bit at the end (I’m confident that’s the technical term for it).
Super cheap keycaps came in the mail today. I had a bunch of spare parts and built a leftover board, but none of my keycaps looked right on it. $20 and two days later…
Dye sub errors aside, I am always surprised at how much I enjoy my cheap and cheerful experiments. This one is weighted down with bicycle weights in order give it heft and reduce reverb. Worked very well.
Got some Salmon tactile switches in the mail from Kinetic Labs today.
I put one in a hot-swap board fully stock. The switch is right up my alley in terms of feel with a quick, smooth, mono-kinetic (does this make sense?) event. Sound is not great off-the-bat but hopefully it will improve with lubing and filming.
I got a batch of these last week, I also like the irl color more than the renders, I love it actually and thinking if I should order a lot more of them.
Been breaking them in, daily driving them stock, on my hotswap since then, interesting feel with the very long springs (have you checked them next to a “long” TX spring? the TX ones look tiny in comparison), I like how “jumpy” they feel.
Planning to put them on a Sesame that should be shipping next week (this is why I bought these, for the color, the jumpy spring was a nice surprise), will lube them once I get to build that.
