What did you get in the mail today? (Part 1)

@pixelpusher @rabbit both of these keysets are magnificent. I do not look forward to paying aftermarket for them!

We should make a camera thread. I currently use an X-Pro2 and a Ricoh GRII.

What keyboard is that in the background dangerously balanced on top of a container? I want it.

Nice! A camera is the next thing I need to grab now that I got a decent mic. I’d like to start streaming my exploits with vintage boards. From how I hunt them down, to harvesting them & building customs with the parts, to restoration projects. I’ve noticed that not many people do that period, let alone on twitch so figure it’s worth a shot. Although I wouldn’t completely base my channel on vintage stuff. I’d stream my personal modern builds & take build commissions if I manage to get a big enough audience that I’d need to stream on a schedule. TBH though I’d really just be doing it to share some knowledge with the community.

The Leopold FC660C arrived today. This is the silent, 45g switch model and it’s my first Topre board. It’s honestly extremely nice to type on. I would go so far as to describe it soothing with a definite tactile feeling. I bought this for the Heavy-6, and I’m going to keep this and use it there.

As a comparison to the board it’s leaning against (Keebio Sinc, POM plate, Boba U4 68g switches), they’re both nearly the same level of quiet, but the Boba’s have the edge on feel. They’ve got a bit more force behind the spring that I enjoy more.

It’s a Kira 60 from a private gb way way back. Simple construction for a simple 60%. It’s quite nice!

A long time coming from the proxy, but a pair of fairly unique vintage Cherry switches. The one on the left is an Aristotle Yellow with different mold depth and size than my one that I currently own, alongside a darker stem color. The one on the right is an unusually vibrant Vintage MX Pale Green.

Very cool pickups! The history of Cherry MX switches is definitely an interesting & much deeper rabbit hole than most assume I think.

Truee. I came across this fascinating write-up a while back:

I’m glad to hear this comparison that you have between Topre Silent and Boba U4! It was something I was deliberating

never even heard of these. pretty cool

Got a few things in the mail this past week:

Gateron Silver Blizzard
Initial impression: fairly big, slightly rounded bump at the top of the press. On the higher end of Gateron switch pitches, and fairly loud, but no spring ping or scratchiness in the stem/leaf interaction. Honestly kinda nice!

Kinetic Labs Salmon Tactile
Initial impression: seems pretty much in line with the other recent Tecsee tactiles other than the long spring (which is a nice change imo), but perhaps a bit higher in pitch?

Big mail day for me! I got two shipping notifications for fairly old GBs last week and they both showed up today. First off, a gorgeous keycap from Jelly Key that I had completely forgotten about:

And then GMK Hero finally showed up! It ended up being a 15 month GB (about the same as GMK’s current estimates) and I’m glad it finally showed up, even if the box is a bit damaged.

The renders made the modifiers look like a great match for black-and-brass boards and they really got that look nearly perfect despite not specifically saying they were going for it.
