Lovely! The more I see black Prophets, the more I like them. I’d love to see the finished pair together!
Tecsee Blue Sky Star tactiles
- HPE housing
- UHMWPE long-pole tactile stem
Ha, I totally forgot about these. They seem pretty darn smooth, though - definitely going to give them a try.
I got my LeleLab “LelePad” at long last and it does not disappoint so far.
I absolutely love that they spent the time taping the individual components to the cardstock sheet. That must have taken some time. Plus, and I guess I wasn’t expecting this, but you get everything. PCB, components, switches, and stabilizers. Just supply the caps.
Or 6
(That i can see at least)
Some linears from NovelKeys:
- TTC Matrix linears because good
- NK Cream Arcs because intrigued
- NK Launch Creams because collecting
- NK Silk Baja Blast- I mean Emeralds because mystery switches are fun
As far as “JWK recolors” go, I think the Silk editions are a great way to go about it.
I think these randomfrankp Emeralds look great - same for the Olivia ones. I like all the recolors more than the original eggy colorway - IIRC all the recolors have been of the Silk Yellows.
I’m sorry to hear that. It’s definitely a bummer to receive delayed disappointment.
May I ask what you dislike, and what board your tried the profile on?
I think I really prefer key sets that have a definite curve to the layout. Meaning I like there to be differences in the row heights. It feels better for typing, to me at least. I’m especially fond of high profile sets like MT3, SA, AF SA, and I can tolerate Cherry and OEM profiles.
I have a DSS Nineteen Thirty set that I ran for a while on the KBD8X and it just didn’t jive with me at all.
The one thing where I do like DSS is for macro-pads. Where I just want to have caps for the keys and I’m only going to peck at the keys occasionally.
Yeah DSS is very much a spherical cousin of Cherry / Cherry-like where the side profile is stepped rather scooped like SA, MT3, KAT, etc which also benefit from a matching keyboard angle of 7 to 8 degrees. I find the scooped side-profiles to work best for me on flatter boards.
What’s your take on flat profiles like DSA or SA R3?
I haven’t tried either actually. Mostly due to my abiding love of the high-pro keys. DSS was kind of a lark as I liked the look of it.
I can see how it would work well on flat boards though. However right now I’m typing on a flat board with a set of caps that are Cherry profile and it’s really nice. I’m not having uncontrollable shakes or itching from MT3 withdrawal at least.
Do you mean DSA? DSA Nineteen Thirty Keycaps – CannonKeys
I whole heatedly agree. A sculptured profile is a must, and add some spherical tops to that as well. I tried SA and MT3, but they aren’t for me. To me, SA tops are not deep enough, MT3 is a bit too steep and rectangular. Also, with MT3, my fingers collide with the keys on some rows going up. So I just created my own high sculptured profile with spherical touch area and a planar top edge. Never looked back.
Oh shit, @llKanull has a good point that I didn’t realize. It seems that you have tried DSA and it’s the uniform / flat profile that you don’t like. Mount those DSS and give them a whirl – the profile should feel like a slightly taller Cherry with round tops. I find them quite delightful.
DSS has a very strongly sculpted R4. It is only comfortable on angled boards.
Indeed I do. Well, maybe I will try Late Harvest. I’m not sure how I confused the two other than I took one look at them in the bag and thought, “these are just like 1930”.
Clearly they’re not the same though. I’m not sure DSS is going to be sculpted as much as say MT3 or SA though and I find those comfortable enough on flat boards. Although I am aware they were historically used on keyboard/typewriters that were angled.
That’s what I love about the recent developments: choice
There’s so much more to choose from these days. I think MT3 made a great start in bringing more variety to high profiles. Then you’ve got PGA, MG, MDA, KLK, OSA, ASA, JDA, etc. — lovely.
Sweet sweet
