The black bar of my hobby keyboards seems to be gone. Of course it’s not the same now like before. It was difficult before. Now it’s two hobbies in one. First, think now how to buy something at all. Secondly, these are the keyboards themselves.
There is a strong wobble stem. But the case is very dense, there is no wobble, the film is not needed. The sound is high, it seems like there may be lubrication inside, but here you obviously need to lubricate everything yourself.
Every six months or so I’m tempted to buy one, but I’ve heard a number of horror stories about magnetic USB connectors shorting out boards or other peripherals. Just a word of caution if you weren’t aware of the (possible) issues with them.
The kbd.news project is getting out of hand. Machined aluminum caps made by metalkeyboards.no arrived today. (Thanks!) Btw, you can win one of these – rules to enter the raffle this way.
I don’t think there are any reputable brands that make them; from what I’ve read, the magnetic connection is not part of USB spec, so any USB magnetic connector violates USB spec by design. No major company would take that risk. This is a pretty good rundown of the problem. That user’s point that if this was a valid tech, major companies would jump all over it and make a lot of profit.
Technically, it’s possible for this to work—Apple’s MagSafe connector worked brilliantly, but was a proprietary connector fully controlled by Apple—but no major/reputable brands will touch this for USB with a 10-foot pole.
I think it’s needs to be tested with different kinds of switches and keycaps, I’ve found that ceratin switches simply refuse to let the stabs sound nice like Ink Blacks, while others are more forgiving like Durock Linears or Kailh BOX switches.
You are right and wrong) Yes, the magnetic cable is a product of only Chinese unknown manufacturers. And they have problems, quality and durability. But I only heard about problems where data transfer stops working or they demagnetize. Therefore, I do not use magnetic cables for phones, tablets or receivers and audio devices. Well, and also because for my devices (gadgets) I use version 3.1 or higher. I’m more interested in transfer speed.
But the keyboard has protection against short circuits. Yes, and I just do not mind, even if it burns.
Got 110 Gat CJs from Dangkeebs & 5 TTC Tigers from AliExpress in. The CJs seem to be a let down to me, just testing in the hand at least. Sure they are smooth AF, but they have a very thin feel & sound to them loose. Gonna have to L+F some of them & give them a whirl in my tester board before I say I don’t like them for sure. The Tigers on the other hand I got because the listing said they were the OG ones that were serialized. Yeah no luck there, they are just the regular production ones. Although they are a pretty good feeling & sounding switch loose. Kinda wish I had ordered my usual 110 pack of them, but they were pretty overpriced on the storefront I used.
