I’ve used both StupidFish and MKUltra plate foams and they’re both high quality in my opinion.
I definitely like the look of that bag more than their usual bags SP ships in lol
Gentlemen, a Frog.
Not only did it ship incredibly quickly but it arrived a day earlier than the tracking originally estimated. I obviously still need to build it before I say anything meaningful about it but I’m extremely impressed at first look. It feels very nice in-hand and I love the contrast of the brass and purple. Still toying with what to use in building it but I can’t wait to give it a try.
Does email count? Cause I got an email that I was officially hired at the new job that I’m moving to in a month
After some frustratingly mixed results with diamond polishing (not to mention sore knees from rocking my feet back and forth all day long), I’ve decided to be smarter about the whole thing and let a machine do the work for me.
As I was waiting for it to arrive, I’ve been mercilessly scouring the internet to find spare parts to make sure that I can have spares indefinitely. The biggest piece of that being the motor and gearbox, which seem easy enough to source, I just need to buy them and make sure that they’re truly a drop-in replacement. We’ll see how it works out but I’ve already got it running out in the garage, albeit under a box stuffed with foam. It’s a noisy little thing.
They are small. They are (hopefully) perfectly formed. And I think they are about to kick my beginner arse into touch right royally and no mistake (or many mistakes… lol). Now am just waiting for the keyboard kit to arrive. And then the mayhem begins…
Just received this beautiful keyboard from a fellow topre enthusiast. I am absolutely in love with the color.
MK 1 Norbaforce in Rose Gold
I bought one in the same config! I was very impressed with the quality as well, and the purple is gorgeous. I grabbed the mysterious “laminated” plate to give it a whirl. I’m hoping to throw together a quick hotswap build today to test it out (probably a RNDKBD Cascade and some stock TTC Ace’s). Can’t wait to see your build.
One of my vintage boards arrived. It has Fujitsu peerless switches and… i’m not sure about them. They aren’t horrible in some ways, but the binding is crazy and it’s even worse on stabilized keys. It’s possible that it’s due to wear or bad storage conditions previously, but man… pretty tough. Lube makes them much nicer in feel and sound, and you can remove/mute the click with that, but it’s still nowhere near MX or similar mechanical switches.
I had a Tandy keyboard with these. They felt like they required more effort than their weight suggests. Very fatiguing.
Nice! The color is beautiful in person. We apparently got exactly the same thing because I got the laminated plate as well. According to what I saw on Discord it sounds like it’s a mix of paper and plastic. I want to give that a shot but I think for the first build I’m going to go with the classic MX Blacks and aluminum plate. I went with the hotswap PCB because it’s the exact layout that I want and I’ve not seen it elsewhere before so that’ll speed things along.
Have you had a chance to build yours yet?
LM60. Haven’t had time to prep a set of stabs so just put it together without it to get a quick sound test. Not bad at all. Anodization is decent. Price was great. Packaging was, um, manly. Little issues here and there but nothing an absent-minded manly man can’t overlook. A good purchase overall.
I’ll be doing this soon enough. What kit?
The box on mine was munched-up like this, too - but thankfully it did do its job in protecting the wrist rest itself. Same story for the extra shine-thru caps I got with the keyboard - they were fine but their box was toast.
2 more vintage boards arrived. 1 with Hi-Tek 725 tactile grey “space invaders” and one with SMK “vintage linear” J-M0404. I have spent hours cleaning them today and they still look this dirty. Not sure if i want to keep cleaning them and use them like they are, or desolder the switches and put them into modern builds. the switches themselves don’t seem to have been too effected by the dirt. the SMK have very pingy springs and are a little scratchy but not too bad. the space invaders are quite smooth and have a subtle tactility to them.
