Smooth and stable and pretty great sound signature stock. They are listed at 55g bottom out but that has to be actuation. There’s no way they are 55g bottom out. Maybe 65-70g is more accurate. In a push test against gateron oil kings, the oil kings bottom out first.
I’m trying to think of how to explain their sound… it’s refined but still fairly clacky. Not as subdued as a Momoka Frog but less harsh than a TTC Ace or Matrix. Factory lube is good but still quite light. They don’t sound rich and thocky like my recently lubed KTT Strawberries with 205g0.
I’m going to try these stock in few boards to see if they’ll fit the bill. Still really hoping to find a switch that I’m happy to use stock.
Interesting! Thanks for the video - I’m waiting for both Oil Kings and Black Sesame (and Mindnight Pros, ahem) currently in the mail…would love to hear direct sound comparison while I impatiently twiddle my thumbs
Akko POM Browns. Initial impression: thocky, low-pitched, and loud. Definitely enjoyable. It’s also great as cheap source of POM housing for modding. I mean, how many POM housings supports full 4mm long-pole key travel? NK Cream, Akko POM Pink/Brown switches and what else?
I ordered these bc I’ve been enjoying a frankenswitch long-pole light tactile switch made out of FLCMMK Ice Mint POM bottom housing + NK Cream POM top housing + Kailh Pro Plum long-pole stem. In a 7-degree aluminum case with FR4 plate, the result is deep thocky board. Similar in pitch to MX Brown stem in Gateron Black Ink housing but louder thock (but not as loud as long-pole combos).
Above combo sounds lower-pitched than full NK Cream housing with same stem as well as Akko POM Browns. I think POM mix FLCMMK Ice Mint housing uses differs from POM mix used in NK Cream and Akko POM Brown.
Buying 3 switches just to remake new sets of my frankenstein switches is wasteful so I’m going to use Akko POM Browns I received today and MX Brown + Black Ink V1 housing combo to expand my beachhead into thocky light-tactiles.
Side details from initial test/impression:
smoothness - decent
spring - pretty good, weight is on the lightest side of my range
wobble - pretty good.
value - excellent!
UPDATE: Seems, like NK Cream, these sounds the best in acrylic case + FR4 combo. Quite a party. O.of!
UPDATE2: Forget about using Akko POM switch housing or stem for modding. Neither are compatible with switches I have. Cancelling my plan to get more.
Had no idea this song showed up in Stranger Things, but I’m also not surprised - there’s a lot of overlap in the aesthetics.
I accidentally ordered 70 of the HMs instead of 90, derp. These are very similar to the Skyloong Glacier / Epomaker Iceberg silents - this one is linear.
The Gat X linears are for the eventual MM Studio Class80 beige build. They feel pretty darn smooth. Of note: these don’t have the little curve in the housing like most (but not all) new Gats have.
The tray is nice, if not quite as well-finished as the display examples - but it’s big and chunky, stays where you put it, and holds screws. Compared with most aluminum trays, you get a bit more dish space for your dollar here.
Chosfox sent me this sample pack of their MBK-alternative low-pro CFX caps, with the recently introduced larger, 1.25-2.25 ones and the new homing caps.
3 keyboards today! A Roccat Vulcan TKL with Roccat red linears, a Cooler Master SK630 with low profile MX Reds and a DEC LK201AE which I think is the heaviest membrane keyboard I own at 1.8kg.
I got some Heartbeats in the other week, and I don’t know how I feel about them. I thought they would have a crisper bottom out than the silicone dampened ones, but they don’t – in fact, silent inks feel firmer. They are definitely smoother and don’t have that grippy sensation during the downstroke. Unfortunately they still feel mushy to me. Maybe I need to put a snappier spring in them before I render a final judgement though.
It’s true, they are still pretty soft. If the leg dampeners still have too much give, you might try either the TTC or more recent Kailh silents; they’re probably the most firm while still being dampened.
If quietness is what you need, though, you might try messing around with some fast-curve springs on full-travel linears. Reducing bottom-out impact force on hard plastic can go as far as putting something squishy in-between.
I got my dark green frog yesterday but just opened it today. Nice feel and finish but it really looks dark gray to me. I can’t see any green at all. I mean, if I tell myself that it’s green I could believe it, but sure is more like a green tinted dark gray.
The pad printed modifiers are great, either. Can see a thin white border on most of them. Looks more like applied stickers. I suppose that’s just a limitation of the process.
