Still haven’t had a chance to try them, but i’m curious to see if there’s a difference in sound.
That’s a nice collection! I really like the idea of adding “ingredients” to each one for later reference.
It’s entirely possible I’ve asked this in the past, but which containers did you use for switches? Are they from CannonKeys? And if so, did the CannonKeys logo sticker peel off or are they just hiding on the back?
I got lucky! It started ticking, but all it was is a glitter bomb, but instead of glitter some white powder.
All of my containers are from Kinetic Labs.
I will sometimes put the square stickers that NovelKeys, Divinikey, or Dangkeebs sends on the bottom of the container, and switch specific stickerw on the lid.
I use a simple label maker so that I can keep track of what has been done by me beyond stock as well as stock info, so that I can narroe down which ones to try for a specific sound profile on a board. Also, with a collection of over 50 different switches, it helps keep me semi-sane, but also makes me look totally “Type A” which I can argue that I am definitely NOT!
WS Morandi from Milktooth. Very enjoyable sound profile that reminds me of Boba switches. Not in the mood to lube this weekend and the switch is very smooth stock so I’ll be using them as is.
The Kinetic Lab containers look almost identical to the CannonKeys containers, but KL does have the better price. Thanks!
I keep thinking about getting more organized, but then I spend my keyboard organization budget on the fun stuff (boards, caps, switches) and I go back to storing stuff in ziploc bags.
Is there any ringing from the springs?
In my default, they came across some where there was a ringing.
So at a minimum the spring needs to be re-lubricated.
Darn. I mine as well lube if I’m going to have to open switch.
While the sound of WS Morandi switches is pleasant, I could see how some would perceive the same sound as cheap plasticky.
Where NK Cream housing is on the weighty side and sounds solid, this switch is unexpectedly light and sounds thin like all the Haimu switches I tried.
Noticed this evening that I started replying to your mini review of the Fleeting Gold switches a month ago and then… didn’t?
I appreciate all the details and comparison to the Pewters (caveat noted). Literally every bullet point you listed is a positive for me, and at $38/110 switches, I’m definitely putting these on my short list. Thanks!
Updates for my Vortex retro boards - some lovely grey keycaps for the M0110 (also bonus bizarre pizza box keycap packaging) and a r/mm buy of my long loved holy grail 2600 SA set for a decent price on the PCJr board.
Awaiting the Model M SSK from vortex and have my 78g Clickiez in the wings for the buckling spring experience.
love it! I have the 2600 set but it’s the 1st, Maxkey version. Been thinking about picking up the SP version. It’s a favorite for sure.
What is the gray keycap set?
Did you get your M0110 from Vortex directly? I was waiting until they come in stock on mechanicalkeyboards.com
I got both of the retro keyboards from Vortex directly as it seems to work well with me being in the UK. A few delays (with the Model M suffering more than most) but I love these vintage inspired boards.
The gray keycap set came from AliExpress -

I could have gone for grey with an Apple Mac font but thought these were good for me.
Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit…
Just got my Frog 8k & I am blown away by Geon’s quality! This is easily the A stockiest A stock board I have ever got! The finish is immaculate, I literally could not find a single speck or anything out of place on the outside of the case (haven’t opened it up yet, but what I can see of the inside looks just as good). The carrying case has an actual flap of material to keep the zipper pouch separated from the board. The board was triple wrapped inside of the carrying case. I could go on, but I think you guys get the point. The craziest thing about this to me is this board is one of Geon’s more affordable kits, but he still treats it like it is grail board. Definitely impressed & will for sure be grabbing more of Geon’s work in the future!
I’ve head people say that Geon’s B-Stock is everyone else’s A-Stock.
My F2-84’s fit and finish would make NASA drool…
Can’t wait to see how your build turns out!!
Yeah I actually had to do a double take when I saw the C stock boards sold out before A or B stock. Seeing how great his A stock is I now understand why people would be cool with Geon’s C & B stock!
Switch day, yay.
MZ Z1 switches. Supposedly manufactured by themselves, which i can’t confirm. I haven’t found a matching mold yet but may update in the future. (Update from the Future : They match up with Jerrzi Winglatch. not 100%, but quite a lot.) They have LY stems, PC tops and nylon bottoms. Quite good and smooth for the low price on taobao. Smooth and minimal wobble, but some slight spring ping.
Also some Xinmeng Wumeizi/Ume/Black Plum (translation is quite vague there, just pick one) with POM stem and (supposedly) pure Nylon with no fibers in the top and (reinforced?) Nylon in the bottom. Not a 100% match but they are very, very close to Outemu Cream molds, even with the split leafs. Very nice switch, and i like the creamy looks of it.
