I’ve actually bought quite a few of these; there have been two distinct rounds. The current one, and a previous one, separated by some time.
The first round had some interesting switches like V1 Creams, Blueberries, and a handful of random stuff they still had on-hand but weren’t selling normally anymore. This second round is a lot more mundane, if not a terrible deal. From this round I’ve gotten:
NK_ Silk Yellows (assuming first run / pre-retool / old lubing method - still good just not as good as the recent ones)
TTC Gold Red Pros (genuinely decent pre-lubed red)
X2 TTC Blues of some kind (appear similar to K series but lack the associated badging - these are basic if well-made jacket clickies)
Gateron Reds (full Nylon / black)
Kailh Red V2s (PC top white bottom)
Pretty much all of these are destined for customer budget boards; I used one set of the TTC Blue housings for some heavy-weight silent tactiles, paired with U4 stems and 72g SPRiT springs.
JC Studio (aka Brother Leek) dyesub keyset with Hebrew sub-legends. Dyesub quality is pretty good. Keycap quality is similar to XMI keyset except edges are more rounded. So JC is cheaper and requires less modding (just the top surface needs polishing to my taste).
NOTE: This was my first time using Superbuy. IMO it’s not worth the hassle and extra shipping fee. Their horrible web UI makes it easy to miss these extra charges and delays.
Nice! I’ve been on the fence about buying a JC Studio color desko set from Divinikey. I have a ton of beige keycaps, but I’ve always wanted the orange desko accents. So maybe it’s worth it?
Got the motherlode in from @rpiguy9907 today! An Aaru TKL, set of SA Ramses, set of DCS Midnight, & a partial set of JTK Suited Assassin! Glad I didn’t go in on Suited Assassin when it was in GB after seeing the caps in person though. Looking at the IC they whiffed big time on the light brown/beige color for the legends & accents. It’s much closer to pink, so much so I almost thought they were Olivia dark at first! The Aaru is a sight in person, super happy with the deal we made!
Might just do it. I honestly haven’t purchased all that many keycaps lately because my storage bins are full. Looks like it’s time to add bin #15 Come to think of it, that’s seems unlucky. Might as well buy 2 more and get a bunch of new keycaps, right?
I’ve got the mystery switches twice. Both fair values, but not special. First was Gateron KS-3 Blues, nice enough for a clicky-user like me. More recently I got the TTC Gold Brown Pro (lubed Browns). The selection is right up my alley for the types of builds I do (always super budget, and one-off handwired lately), but it sounds like the days of getting niche overstock that would be a steal for the right person are long gone.
@donpark@pixelpusher lots of JC Keycaps are on sale at Keebsforall until tomorrow if you want to pick up more sets for just $29. They also have Kailh Pro switches on sale if you want a throwback (Purples and Burgundy), lol.
Thx. On top of the JC keyset I received today, I have 4 XMI keysets so I think I’m good for awhile. That said, I’m happy to see classic keysets of decent quality readily available.
Speaking of classic sets, did you see CRP R6 is for preorder on Dorp? 1.8mm thick, too. I might pick up the black on black. But I won’t preorder. Not handing my money over to wait until May of 2024. I’ll just wait for on-sale extras
Hmm I didnt see they were that thick! Im with @WayToBlue on that being overkill. Was gonna grab some alpahs, numpad, & other kits to match with my Rd. 5 Tulip set, guess thats a no go now… Still probably gonna grab the Xerox set, I really dig that & was kicking myself for not grabbing it during Rd. 4 I think.
I have a set of 1.7mm NicePBT caps (Fbasic) and, even compared to other thick PBT caps, they are really deep to where they dampen the sound too much for me on some keyboards. They feel meaty.
As reviewed by others, it does sound and feel similar to Topre. Only real negative is they are 3-pin. This was mentioned in the product page which I didn’t read. Initial image on the page showed 5 pin version so .
I’m going to lube these then plant them in WK870 for when I need a quiet board.
UPDATE: Tested both 3203 and 3204. With 3203, the switch feels mechanical where, with 3204, it feels more Topre-like.
UPDATE2: Stock lube felt very similar to 3203 so went ahead and installed them. I can try 3204 later. This switch is amazingly similar to Topre, slightly sandy feel and one of the keys (M) sounding and feeling like Topre key with slightly off-center spring. Defect is not serious though so I’ll just live with it. No Topre spring to tweak anyway.
