The Fairlane Accents should let me convert my knockoff Boston to MT3, the Oblivions should go well with several sets of Alphas, and the green CTRL case with that integrated plate is going to be handwired if I can fit in a small MCU, but if not there are lots of other options, from sourcing a PCB down to testing the laser on anodization.
Worst case, I spent 60 bucks in vain, which I can afford.
Best case (pun intended), I get six cases for TKL-builds.
I’ve not decided which way I’m going to try, I also consider handwiring. Another option might be using a 60%-PCB, and handwire the rest with a separate MCU, the case has two openings for usb ports anyway .
Mine just arrived. I haven’t checked, but I think the screwholes are M3. I’m also not sure there’s enough vertical space for the bottom row without their LED diffuser, but that shouldn’t be too hard to fabricate if necessary, and with an older design like this it’ll probably be needed as a force break anyway. The final hitch is those two USB openings are very close to keyswitches so you won’t be able to simply park a Pro Micro there, or even most breakout boards that I could see. My current plan is to use one of these with copious amounts of hot glue and, if necessary, a small grommet on the outside to make it flush enough. They designed it for their PCB and their PCB only.
I ordered a Realforce 87u R1 off of mechmarket for $200. I remember like, 15 years ago (?) seeing the Realforce 87u online. I was just a teenager with a minimum wage job. I loved the aesthetics of it, but got into MX before I ever touched Topre. I’m excited to dive in
Well, @Wooden-Toilet is barely French. For most of its history Lille was Flemish. Only since the peace treaty of Aachen in 1668 Lille became definitively French.
I am writing from Hasselt, Belgium, which originally belonged to the prince bishopality of Liège, but which Napoleon grouped together with Flanders in 1801. Yes, I am a history junkie and I type my ç with AltGr + , on the US International with AltGr deadkeys layout.
Ordered a Geon daughterboard so I can swap my Realforce board over to USB-C. Pretty much the last thing left for me to handle keyboard wise. I just can’t take the permanently attached cable anymore. Should be a fun little weekend project.
I’ve never been to Lille but I just happen to have always lived in other border regions of France (Alsace as a kid, Provence for university, Savoie…), and many of them have a similar story. The rural dialect in Alsace is closer to German than French, provençal is close to Italian, etc.
But I didn’t know the specific story of the far north. In French there’s an expression: “I’ll sleep less dumb tonight.”
Nice! Would you mind linking which one you picked up? I just got my 87u and want to do the same. I figured out some methods, but they’re a bit involved.
I’ll have to cut one end of the JST to solder to the Realforce PCB, and then potentially file the case to fit the port, and then just hotglue the daughterboard in.
Gotcha, thanks! For a second I thought you found a Geon daughterboard that was compatible already haha. If only. I suppose I’ll get around to doing something similar. I’ve seen someone do similar with the OG RF cable + a usb-c breakout board as well.
There are people here who know a lot more about linears than I do.
But Gateron Ink Black V2 used to be fairly well-regarded as a stock switch. A bit overpriced, since it wasn’t perfect. But it compared well with its contemporaries.
The spring weight was a bit heavy for some people. But at least that aspect can be changed by you relatively easily.
I think that the Ink line was superseded in perceived quality by the Gateron Oil King. I found that the kind of people who were buying Ink V2 for use as stock switches in builds [i.e. they wanted ready-made decent linears] started using switches from Gateron’s Oil King line instead.
I agree with the spring weight might be too heavy for some people but in my other custom, I’ve got JWK V2s and I liked them at 63.5g so I went for something similar. I never heard of oil kings but I looked them up and it seems like they are a little light for my liking if that makes sense.
