What is on your desk today?

This is on my desk today, but only for today, because at its heart it is crap. I am only going to keep it because I would feel bad selling this to a newb who might want to use it as a daily. It is awful.

  • They sound like crap
  • It is two pieces, but not top mount
  • Very hard to mod because of how the plate screws to the PCB
  • Requires three different screw drivers
  • Custom PCB
  • Plate mount stabilizers only
  • Plate mount switches only
  • North facing LEDs

It is very unique looking, and the polished aluminum Enter key is absolutely baller. So it will live on my shelf and never again on my desk.

Even after going through contortions to get some plate foam into it, it is beyond rescue.

Also, PSA, Durock switches sit a full mm lower than Kailh (yes the stabs are fine). Check out the spacebar!

Man. This is one of those “never meet your heroes” kind of things, like that Lamborghini from the 80’s. Stunning to look at… but not so stunning to use.

Countach? Were those crap? I used to look upon them with awe in the exotics tent of the auto show when I was a kid. You knew a car was expensive in those days when it was 5 feet back from a rope. You could touch and look into windows of the Porsches even if their doors were locked but not the Lambos and Ferraris

It’s funny the Countach was actually one of the most reliable super cars, according to Jay Leno who used one as his daily driver for ten years in the 80s.

Maybe because they made it for 30 years they got good at it, lol.

It is crap to drive with crap ergonomics. The vehicle is huge but interior is tight even for a short Italian. Zero visibility. Imagining Jay Leno bent over the steering wheel trying to drive it is kind of funny to think about.

Got me a set of 13 low-profile Kailh choc switches recently, but to properly test them, I need them mounted, so I made two more keeblets:

The two red switches (kailh pro and transparent red) were practically the same, so I skipped one of them.

Haven’t been on the computer in the home office much so brought the M0110 to work, to put some miles on her.

Finally built my QXP. I am loving the low profile so far, this has to be one of my lowest profile boards.

Of course, it has been a while since I’ve used HHKB layout so the delete key will be causing me much consternation for a day or two `\``\````\

While I’m personally not a fan of keycap sets that style themselves after the famous Apple boards, the bird novelty cap is pretty cool.

What keycap set is this?

Pitta Studio DSA Bluebird. This set exceeded my expectations and has very, very sharp legends.

I cannot use the blue accents included in the set with this board though, because the do not match the navy color of the board very well.
