This weird pre-built called the Cleave!

Here’s way too many words about it: Truly Ergonomic Cleave Keyboard Review – Nuclear Monster and that’s why I was looking for optical switches (and still haven’t found any!)

I just watched Thomas’ review on this keyboard. I’d say it was fairly positive by his standards

One of my colleague is waiting for it’s one to arrive.
He is a big fan of the previous version: he owns two of them that I customized with cherry red linear switches.

CU7 was put together yesterday. Encoder is super smooth compared to my kiwikeebs macroboard’s. Loving it

YES. I’ve been enjoying the smoothness of it. Are you not having issues with the usb connection being unstable? maybe i just need to push out the pcb out a bit while screwing it all together

And by unstable i mean like, it’ll loose connection if it wiggles just a bit sometimes.

Can’t say I’ve encountered any issues with the USB port! I do remember some people saying something about the port cutout on the case not being wide enough to accommodate certain cables though. Could that be it?

I put NK’s Cherry Stone on the keeb and took it off immediately. I put on SA Oblivion and am fairly happy with the look. (Hagaromo alphas. Red accents seem more natural on the Soya)

I frequently look at Norbauer’s website and contemplate the Palm Desert key set and mat because of how good it might look but haven’t been able to pull the trigger.

Setup in the office,

TKC1800 with creamsicles with GMK ashes
Glorious model O wireless

Most likely going to replace the TKC with the Heavy-9

TKC is pretty hollow

Does anyone else collect brushes? I usually get one to use and another for the time capsule.

If you grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, you might have had a junk drawer full of those pens plumbers or real estate agents used as business cards.

First post here… I built this over the weekend… Box Jade switches, Silent key caps, lubed stabs…

i just feel incredibly old now. i did homework on scraps of real estate broker/agent promo pads of paper that my grandparents kept near every phone station in their home. probably used the same pencils and pens too.

Looks great! I don’t see enough of the 70%(?) layout around, I like the the look of the 2 columns of keys on the right side and that it has all of the navigation keys.

heavy metal keyboard.
I am actually impressed with the build quality & sound, considering the price.

It looks great! I love the textured powder coat. Still waiting on shipping confirmation on my yellow HMKB75. I do regret not getting it in HHKB instead though – if a SS extra pops up, I may have to jump on it.

Exactly, the two columns of navigation keys is precisely why I like this layout. I do a lot of document and text file editing, so the navigation cluster is very important to me.

I’ve become such a fan of this layout that I’ve been trying to find as many examples of it as I can… Currently I’ve only seen six keyboards with this layout. The one I’m using is my favorite so far. Two of the others I haven’t tried yet (and are slightly different), two of them are not too good (firmware issues), and the last one is okay - but not very well featured (basically the kind of keyboard that would make for a good entry-level modding platform).

I’ve also looked for PCB’s, but only found one so far - and that company wants to sell 100 in a batch…

I’m only familiar with the RK71 (which I own, and understand your woes with firmware) and the Drevo Calibur (which from what I understand is virtually identical to the RK71).

Those are the two I was referring to as having firmware issues. These keyboards share firmware created by a vendor identified as SONiX. The problem with this firmware is that it presents the keyboard to the system as an Apple Aluminum keyboard. And that is true whether the keyboard is in Mac or Windows mode.

The upshot of this is that the number row will always send the key codes for the media keys, instead of the function keys…

The Havit KBD512L and the Feker keyboard I am using did a couple of things correctly. First, they are using different firmware…but also, they didn’t try to implement the media keys on the number row along with the function keys. This basically has ensured that everything works correctly.

The two I haven’t messed with (yet) are from Redragon and HelloGanss…so i don’t know if they will have issues. (The HelloGanss is the more strangely interesting because it can be converted into a 68 key layout by replacing some of the keycaps with a plate.)
