That’s such a pretty combo! I’m still using the included aluminum plate right now. A bit firm but it sounds quite nice with Cherry Blacks. Once I do swap the plate, I’m probably going to use Polypropylene and pair that with a 4 flex cut HAD 60 PCB.
It would be nice if they made a light tactile where the bump is at the very top (maybe they do but I can’t seem to find one). The ONLY reason I don’t like browns is because by the time the switch hits the bump you can’t even feel it unless you are pressing slowly. They normally just feel like a linear with some grit stuck in the switch.
You may be able to emulate this with a medium tactile using a lighter or progressive spring. Though more tactile than browns, I like 62g U4T stems and springs in MX Brown housings (MX Brown springs for even less tactility). This combo takes the edge off of the stock U4T’s.
Haha, yes. I am aware of Linear Thock, hence the play on words to Light Tactile.
It’s resentment, because I’ve been saying there should be Boba light tactiles for some time
Since Gazzew can make successful linear Bobas, it makes me feel that light-tactile should be possible. Look what KTT did with Mallo, they put a nice light-tactile stem in their housings that worked for linear. [They just need to fix the leaf.]
I also agree with korbin73 in terms of preference for light tactiles where the bump is mounted nearer to the top. The Cherry design is pretty ergonomic, but a higher bump can feel crisper and more responsive.
I don’t like Gateron Brown and especially Silent Brown because I feel that the bump is too low. I hate pressing all that way down before I experience tactile feedback, and still get to feel a subpar housing on the way down. SP Star Meteor Orange somehow gets away with a relatively low bump, but that’s it.
Kailh is starting to get good at [silent linear] housings that have the dampening built-in, but still might feel smooth and thocky. So that’s opening the door to putting a Brown-like stem in there. Plenty of examples to follow for stems: MX Brown, KTT Mallo, Meteor Orange, or if you like higher-mounted tactility there’s Pro Purple, Everglide Jade Green, even Kailh Speed Copper at the extreme.
Yes. You can build MX Clear as a nice light-tactile by using a 68 G Progressive Spirit spring and generous 3204. The spring is weak at the top, so you still get a Brown-like bump [the stem is mostly-lubed], and the spring is stronger at the bottom.
I feel that the switch is pretty responsive, if built right.
I mentioned a few light tactiles where the bump is at the top in the above post. They do exist. Mainly, I think a lot of us are looking for something that is like a BOX White+ but without the click. Something crisp and responsive right-off-the-bat [you don’t have to sink 2mm into the switch before feeling something], with a definite but limited tactile feedback, with plenty of room and maybe growing resistance to prevent bottom-out.
I don’t think that really exists, maybe Jailhouse Blues, Kailh just released a muted BOX Jade, but it looses some of the crispness and tactility. But I honestly wouldn’t mind typing on a no-click BOX White or Noble Yellow or something. [I may have been unfair to Kailh in its naming schemes, Noble Yellow and Ancient Gray are fine names for switches.]
